A developer of Star Citizen [Official Site] has commented on their forum to state that the game will go with Vulkan and eventually drop DirectX.
Here's what the developer said (source):
This is pretty great for both Vulkan adoption and future Linux support of the MMO. Considering right now it relies heavily on DX11, if they actually do drop that for Vulkan it really does mean they will only be using Vulkan.
Star Citizen itself has been the topic of a lot of controversy, since a great many people think it will never actually end up as a game. I have no real thoughts on that, since big games do take a long time and a lot of money to make, and these guys are doing it in the public eye.
Here's what the developer said (source):
QuoteYears ago we stated our intention to support DX12, but since the introduction of Vulkan which has the same feature set and performance advantages this seemed a much more logical rendering API to use as it doesn't force our users to upgrade to Windows 10 and opens the door for a single graphics API that could be used on all Windows 7, 8, 10 & Linux. As a result our current intention is to only support Vulkan and eventually drop support for DX11 as this shouldn't effect any of our backers. DX12 would only be considered if we found it gave us a specific and substantial advantage over Vulkan. The API's really aren't that different though, 95% of the work for these APIs is to change the paradigm of the rendering pipeline, which is the same for both APIs.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
I think I bought it for 20€ or something ^^
And about the Duke Nukem comparison, even if it's far from being finished it is already way better than that. You can already spend several hours playing it and having fun with it (yes I know, this is one of the 2 games forcing me to keep my dual boot partition because I bought it before switching to Linux...). Don't forget that for most of MMO and big AAA we don't hear about it until it's almost ready (like one or 2 years before max). They are showing all their progress from the beginning and that's a reason why it seems so long to finish.
But on the topic, Vulkan is awesome and a really good call. I really have a good feeling about the decisions of this development team (even if having Linux ready sooner would be cool...)

Lower than $45? Really?
I mean, hell, it used to be just $35, but that was, like, three years ago.
Certainly, 45USD is more than 3/4 of a day of work. It's more than 3 restaurant meal, maybe 4 and if you go cheap, more than 6 meal ! If i eat at home, i could make more than 2 week of foods with this if i wanted...
I would consider a lot more an 20 USD price tag. Specially when we consider i buyed the complete bundle of Civ V on June 2014 for 16.49 USD...

They also support Mac (at list with Elite dangerous), which would be a bit of a problem.

Considering the main game engines are working on making vulkan available + having a linux port, I expect the vulkan market to grow a lot in the next years. More than DX12 will.
That game developers consider seriously vulkan is an awesome news. Maybe rockstar and blizzard will follow

But that movement must be fast because day by day people are migrating to Windows 10 from previous versions.
What do we have now;Windows 7,8,Linux,Android and Nintendo Switch. But assuming that Windows 10 market share will grow because of lacking security, feature updates at 7 and 8;the real game changer will be the next PlayStation if they decide to use Vulkan.
