Stellaris [Official Site] is a game I want to put a lot more time into, but lots of annoyances along with not enough content keep me from it. It sounds like the new DLC and free patch will fix a lot.

I've already covered the DLC, but now the developers have written up some of the smaller features coming to the 1.5 'Banks' update.

Food for example, it is no longer per-world but spread across your civilization. So you have a global food stockpile which I love. It's keeping a nice feature, while making it less tedious to use. This will affect population growth too, since it will be based on your overall stockpile.

Changes to terraforming are coming too. If you possess the right technology, certain planets will now be able to be terraformed into habitable planets, like Mars.

Stone Age Primitives will be less of a nuisance on planets, with you being able to study and/or conquer them.

See the full developer log on these and more right here. I love what I am hearing and it's great to see them act on player feedback where it makes sense. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I've been watching Stellaris since before it came out, but hadn't been able to afford it yet. However I'm just starting a new job and the 1.5 update and Utopia seem like a really great time to get into it. :)

If you love 4X space games… It's a must have :). I can't wait for Utopia (although I should get the Plantoid DLC, too) either, I managed to befriend a Fallen Empire (which is now Awaken by the way) just to watch their ring worlds.

I've just beaten the Unbidden ("Extradimensionnal beings" ) yesterday evening (tip: make a 75K fleet, take one of their fleets out, send a scientist to research on the debris, then research extradimensionnal weapons and jump drive (better than the distortion drive), while you repair your fleet, then take over another of their fleets, research debris again: huge boost in the weapon research, extradimensionnal weapons in 6 monthes, equip your 75K fleet with it, ho, it's now a 100K+ fleet, then proceed by taking out all their fleets one by one and finish by destroying their portal. Bonus: everybody in the Galaxy now loves my repugnant fanatic collectivists xenophiles esclavagists arthropoïds :])

I've (strangely) never really played many 4X space games, but I love Europa Universalis IV and have played a lot of Civilization so I'm looking forward to it. Plus I love space (I'm an astronomer IRL!), so thanks for the tips. :) I'm hoping to get my buddy who also loves Civ5 into Paradox Grand Strategy games with it too.
