As expected, although not in the same day I wrote about Aspyr teasing it, the 'Australian Summer' update for Civilization VI [Steam] is now live on Linux.
So the game is now up to date along with all DLC being available for Linux gamers.
Here are some highlights from the patch:
- Start position and map generation has been tuned
- Updated ice generation to allow more for circumnavigation
- Players can now build obsolete units if they do not have access to the strategic resource required by the upgrade unit
- Tech Tree balance and adjusted prerequisites
- Updated Viking scenario to 60 turns
- Steam Workshop support
If you do pick up the 'Australia Civilization & Scenario Pack' DLC that now supports Linux, be sure to come back and tell us your thoughts.

So when they say soon, they really do mean SOON! Nice.

Any news about performance fix? I think that is more important than DLC

I am utterly not interested in the DLC, but the "free" patch is nice and welcome.
As a side note, I really wonder if really EVERY country on the planet gets added before Canada does. I know, I know. We're America's hat. But still!

Hi,
I haven't bought CIV6 yet and would appreciate some advise
from my fellow Linux gamers:
Is CIV6 worth it compared to CIV5? Do the new features justify
the price tag? What do you think, is it worth a buy?
Best regards,
lagh

lagh: No, not right now. Not yet. It is probably much better to wait for decent expansions. Game currently suffer from serious balance issues, even dumber AI, kind of dumb design of several victory conditions (namely religion is quite weak) and it kind of lack content, some technologies/units/tech tree are overstretched in certain areas.

Canada is way too nice to be a war monger : ) I went to Victoria recently and would move there today if it wasn't so cold in the winter..
Agreed, as I mentioned in a post re: performance on ARK (or maybe I took it out) anyways, they should focus on getting the OpenGL version at least to a 9/10 mark before saying that they're going to work on Vulkan.
It's almost like the silly comments you see sometimes that make you think that people believe that bad/slow game + vulkan = fast game. There are always trade offs and I always hope that developers recognize they have priorities that come before other editions/DLC.
Maybe if OpenGL is at it's limits and Vulkan makes sense.. but I don't think, in my example, ARK is at that point., and looking around it seems as though people have said that for a while. Eventually computers will catch up, but not anytime soon. E.g. unoptimized BASIC would still be fast on today's machines.
