STRAFE [Steam, Kickstarter] looks fantastic as an FPS and a throwback to some retro shooters, but sadly it has seen a delay. I reached out to the publisher Devolver Digital to ask about the Linux release as it wasn't mentioned in the announcement.

When asking if "PC" meant Windows in the recent announcement, or if they were including Linux in that and here's the reply:
QuoteSTRAFE will hit PC via Windows and Mac, at least first.
I did additionally ask if there was any release date now set for the Linux version:
QuoteNot at the moment, no.
STRAFE was funded on Kickstarter with $207,847 pledged to make this retro throwback FPS happen. I'm really excited to play it, so hopefully we don't get let down.

Good riddance. I suppose people (like me) use Linux based operating systems not only because of a certain market share on Steam.
If you want to do real gaming, you will need to use other platforms besides Linux. If you don't think so,ask Liam.Who also uses a console for real gaming.
Yeah, fanatics like you always exist so i'm not surprised.
Wait.... Real gaming?
Are you implying that the games I play on Linux aren't *real* games?
If you don't mind, please look at the message i explained my real gaming terms

So, arbitrary rules that *you* made up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you want to do real Linux gaming, you need to use other hardware, like a Core i5, or i7, or even a new Ryzen, and you definitely need to run an Nvidia card.
See how that works?

Like even barely getting 30 fps from Civilization VI and try to be happy about it?With so powerful specs
Or getting some crazy fps drops on Mad Max and try to behave like 'that is normal'
No,thanks.I will pass.

That's cool. Your narrow definition of "real" gaming doesn't interest me anyway. I am curious as to why you're on GOL claiming gaming is dead though. GOL was here before the Steam revolution and I suspect it'll be here long after.
Regardless, going back to Windows? Not for me. I'd rather give up gaming.

EDIT:
I was wrong, there should be 140 millions active users.
So it give us 1 050 000 active users. It's totally not bad. :D
Real gaming... real performance... etc.
Steam has something around 14 millions active users. Linux users are in 0,75% of it.
105k active Linux users it's not bad. :)

Makes me sad. STRAFE was one of the games I'm looking forward to play the most. But well, if it's not a day-1 release changes are I will wait for a sale.

"Fanatics" tsksk. Spare us your drivel. If you are using your PC mainly for gaming: Stick to Windows for Chrissake. I use my Linux desktop for work (since I make my living on being a developer), but I also like a hearty game every now and then. Matter of fact: I have way to many games on my pile of shame. And a drop from 0.81% to 0.78% just doesn't make my heart race...

Yeah no kidding. Sometimes it's hard to tell what side these naysayers are even on.
You don't HAVE to use Linux to support it. If it's not cutting it for your gaming needs and you really want to play windows games then go ahead and use windows. Some of us still prefer to stick to Linux because of the OS itself, I personally don't know how anyone can stand to use a windows machine for more than a few minutes, but that's just me.
It doesn't mean we're a sinking ship just because your particular needs aren't being met. If you think we're in bad shape now then I'd hate to see what you would have thought a a few years ago. Valve never intended to make steamOS/Linux explode in popularity. Slow and steady was their game plan from the very beginning (they even wrote about it but of course nobody listens). They're still in it for the long haul.
If you do stick with windows that's fine, but I hope you still support Linux and will take the time to let developers know.

One thing before war starts: these famous market share.
Let's do the math, according to (iirc) 2013 stats:
1.2% Linux gamers, ~80 millions Steam accounts, so barely 900.000 linux gamers
2015 stats (iirc, again, but the figures are roughly the sames):
0.92% Linux gamers, ~140 millions Steam accounts, so, barely, roughly 1.5 million linux gamers.
The fact is that if market share seems to drop, due to the fact Steam users growing faster than Steam Linux users, doesn't mean that we're less to play and use Steam. So, in fact, the Steam Linux users number is growing. Not as fast as the "global" Steam users, but growing.
Remember how in the late 90's Linux users were few, really few. Nowadays, it accounts for between 50-75 millions people on the damn planet. And I'm not talking about servers or smartphones using an outdated linux kernel with a proprietary userland, nope, just desktop. We've already won on the other markets.
Mind me, I'm using Linux since 20 years (and, beside the occasionnal Active Directory, never used Windows. never used it on *my* desktop or laptops, in 20 years, because I never needed it), it's even (75% part, I also happen to work with *BSD and proprietary network stuff (Cisco, Juniper)) my job since ten years, I don't care about day-1 AAA games. I've been able to play Mad Max III at a steady 60 fps, 6 monthes later so I grabbed it at a sale, I'd like to play an old school FPS like Strafe one day. Even if it's not day-1. As long as it is available for my operating system. If it's not: "no tux, no bux", period. But being treated as second-class citizen, reading dubious arguing about the virtues of Proprietary Operating System X©, knowing that we rule this world from New-York Stock Exchange to the smartphone in your pocket, no, thanks.
Please excuse the english butchering, as it's not my mother's tongue, and as comments series (especially when it involves "fanatics", "ayatollahs" and other stupidities) like this one really get on my nerves.
