Cosmic Star Heroine [Official Site], an indie 2D RPG about saving the galaxy has delayed the Linux version. Another in a long list, sadly. The game released today, with no official announcement that I could find about Linux not being there.
The game was funded on Kickstarter, where the developers bagged a tidy $132,689 to make it come to life. It wasn't mentioned anywhere on there that the Linux version would not see a same-day release.
One of the problems I have with it, like many Kickstarters, is that the developers made people sift through comments/twitter/forum posts to find out what was happening with the Linux version. They never officially stated in an update post that the Linux version would be delayed at any point, which really aggravates me. People shouldn't need to search through comments to find mentions of a platform that was officially part of the plan. Their website even still lists the game as having a Linux version on the pre-order Humble Store widget.
I can only imagine the mammoth task it is to bring out a game like this as a two-person team. I'm not blind to that, but I do take issue with poor communication as I always do. Openly state if a platform you stated will be delayed/not released day-1 as early as you can and each time platforms are mentioned. I don't have an issue with delays, as most of the time it makes better games, just communication.
There's also another problem with delaying the Linux version: sales. The majority of the hype around the game will likely had died once a Linux version launches, which can lead to poorer sales.
Hopefully we won't be waiting too long on this one, as it looks like something I would love.

I can understand delays on titles like 'Inner Chains' ; but delay on 2d indie games like this is just unacceptable.

Cosmic Star Heroine is being made by 3-4 people, and releasing simultaneously on four platforms: Windows, Mac, PSVita and Playstation 4.
How is that different to you? Do you seriously think that 2D games don't need much work?
Now as much as I don't enjoy having Linux releases delayed, how do you think, does that make more sense for them to focus more on the most profitable platforms (with 2 of them having biggest share in the video games market), or to start their focus with the single least profitable platform first?
