A presentation was done about Counter-Strike: Global Offensive [Steam] coming to China, where they revealed Source 2 was coming along with a new UI.

This shot in particular is catching a lot of attention (source, with more images there):

This roughly translates to:
Quotesource 2 engine and Panorama UI
the next big action - this summer

This could mean CS GO will get Vulkan, like Dota 2 has. Exciting times, can't wait to see how it performs since I've been playing more of it lately. The Panorama UI is something Dota 2 gained with the big new refresh too, so it will be interesting to see the new layout in CS GO as well.

Some of this was expected, since Valve's recent reddit AMA where they mentioned the Panorama UI amongst other things.

Looks like this summer is going to be fun.

It actually performs better for me than the OpenGL, but experience may vary between different hardware setups.

well, doesnt the steam client already use (some sort of) the panorama ui, does it? at least like browsing the steam store. it is just chrome/chromium running in the background.

No, that's Chromium. Panorama is only used for the Big Picture UI in the Steam client. It is also used heavily in DOTA2. The store is literally embedded Chromium and is unrelated.

I gave up csgo. I banked a mountain of hours on it and slowly everyone I played with got frustrated with the endless bugs (usually introduced along with new features) and out-of-fooking-control cheating. Right now the hot bugs are music re-enables at full volume for no reason (makes 1v1 damn near impossible), lobby chat is broken (for some) and some kind of memory corruption when starting a game from the lobby (ends with a crash).

Oh and if your one of those "nobodies cheating guys" self-righteous reddit-tier spastics that are the cherry on top of the worst community in gaming, before you look like a complete idiot know that the linux version has no VAC and there is an open source hack that is VERY popular as of right now (and no I won't link to it).

lmao, yet another silver 3 blaming "cheaters"...

well, I seem to have a different view on CSGO, unlike most people here.

first of all: it runs fast like hell. I have no game that runs that good as CSGO does. besides that valve-typical sound-stutter when you click some stuff (like making a match selection, or changing some settings), it runs smoothly in any way.

I use it with steam controller and I am surprisingly good, mostly within the top players on public servers, not even that rarely on #1 with most points/kills/assists. Can't believe it myself, although I am surely not talking about ESL like skills, I just play this for fun on my TV and kick ass pretty much often.

Crashes? Maybe one in a week, having several hours of gameplay. Mostly it just returns to the big picture mode. I am playing this on steamOS.

Cheaters? zero. can't say that I have ever ever seen one. I don't even know about VAC not being available.

Sound is 5.1, works superb, even the music volume levels some complain about.

But yes, there is one issue: I have the distinct feeling that valve puts low priority on this game with linux or at least steamOS. There are bugs I can't remember right now, that are related to steamOS<>controller<>CSGO, which is surprising to me, since this game is known to work better by fps on Linux than on any other OS, including windows. Honestly, I am a little afraid that this source2-port or any work with vulkan won't see a day1 release on linux.

He is right and we don't need the facking Cheaters on Linux. The most Cheaters switch from Windos to Linux, because VAC is not on Linux active.
I have see many comments on Youtube about the switch. And yes i hate facking Cheaters.

This is great as performance will be on par with Windows as Source 2 was built with Linux in mind. No more DirectX to OpenGL conversion.

Oh and Vulkan!!!

The broken bit of Dota 2 Vulkan issue I was having was fixed, pretty quickly.
