Yup, it's teaser time again! Feral Interactive are teasing another new Linux & Mac port on their infamous teaser radar.

You know how this works by now, Feral tease a picture with another clue and we have no idea what it will be until it's released.

Here it is:
image

Begin the guessing game, what do you think it could be? I think it's good to see another teaser for Linux appear!

For those that don't already know, Feral Interactive are the company behind many Linux ports like Shadow of Mordor, XCOM, Tomb Raider, Mad Max and quite a number more. Their Linux catalogue is pretty damn impressive right now. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

It seems like they aren't paying much attention to their radar. This is the first I've seen them release a game and not show it on the radar. They still have F1 as "out now for MAC" even though they just released Total War Warhammer for MAC. Unless they want to push F1 more than Warhammer. Maybe Warhammer is selling really well and F1 isn't?

Warhammer was already released for Linux but I believe they've listed games on the radar that they already released for another platform. I think they did this for Life is Strange when it was released for MAC and delayed for Linux, then released for Linux. I believe they did it with Rome: Total War between MAC and IOS

I don't think they have done that recently. Not for exactly the same game anyway. The iOS stuff is different in many ways.

Joking aside (for some other joking...) Now we have to come up with excuses as to why they haven't leaked it yet. It could be that they want to be sure that Feral can actually deliver. Imagine they went out and announced The Witcher 3 for Linux again and then failed to deliver once again. Better to keep it a UFO at Feral and let it disappear in the hopefully very unlikable event that it (whatever it is) could not be ported to Linux.

That gave me an idea: Feral is giving hints so widely interpretable in their radar so that they can relate them to another game if the current port doesn't work out. :D

They don't give widely interpretable hints. It's obviously Nier: Automata.

1) It would be the first Japanese Square Enix game to be on Linux. This explains the Japanese symbol.

2) The letter 茶 is the title from a Nier: Automata subquest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KoM4C8jAfQ

3) Feral Interactive loved working with Square Enix at a recent time (Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Life Is Strange, Hitman, Thief,..)

4) Nier: Automata is the best game ever made for many people.

"I don't do reviews; probably going to be my only steam review ever. I estimate exactly 4 people will ever read this. But just putting it out there; this is one of the most beautiful experiences in life I've had so far. Literally nothing I've read, watched or played has actually made me cry, truly; but after finshing ending E, I cried, simply for how beautiful this work of art was."

"Quite possibly one of the best games I've played ever. Definitely sitting comfortably at my GOTY spot until MAYBE something comes along that might dethrone it. But after looking through the rest of the titles that come out this year, highly unlikely that's happening."

"Rare are the moments when I am compelled to take time out to leave a review for a game. In fact, I think I've written only one or two reviews in the 8 or 9 years I've been on Steam. And yet, NieR: Automata has compelled me to leave one. "

I must admint that I wasn't serious with The Witcher 3. Just found the "coincidence" amusing.

This said, I don't know what is Nier:Automata but if Feral could team up with Square Enix to port all of their games over to Linux, that would be awesome! Square Enix has many awesome games.

Looking at all their latest collaborations, it's heading in the right direction, at least. :)

But what means "Made to Wade" in this context? Simplified Wade is the most common romanization system for writing Standard Mandarin Chinese. See:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplified_Wade

I think it is impossible to simply ignore this point because it is evident.

茶 = cha

If you subscribe 茶 according to the rules of simplified Wade you get the syllable "cha".

It is this syllable that you must bring in conjunction with a game to solve the riddle.
thed4rkn1te Apr 24, 2017
Maybe we're overthinking it. The picture suggests reads as cha = tea > iced tea, made to wade = swimsuits, therefore the game is Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.

Or looking at the more literal symbology of the logo for the Macha tea company. Macha also relates to Celtic mythology, as the goddess of war, and there is an upcoming game from Ninja Theory called Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice takes you on a journey into savage viking heartland with Senua, a Celtic warrior struggling with trauma & psychosis.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is using Unreal Engine 4. And developers are very elusive and didn't reply to any questions about Linux plans.

I really hope it is. How long does it usually take for Feral to move the game from "soon" to "very soon" and etc.?

I remember "Depth Charge". It moved up and down the radar for ages until it finally floated away. So far I haven't spotted a pattern.

I don't understand why people think so. It makes absolute no sense, because it is nearly impossible that Feral would port this game. This developer and publisher already ported the first part to Linux. How likely is it that Feral now makes the port for the second part? Very unlikely.

This is about solving a riddle and not about what you personally want.

I personally would love to see GTA V ported. If I search for 茶 and GTA V I get a lot results. Also the 茶 looks like V - somehow. It's GTA V! Hooray, Hooray!! Excuse my sarcasm, but it's just too funny.

"A riddle is a statement or question or phrase having a double or veiled meaning, put forth as a puzzle to be solved. Riddles are of two types: enigmas, which are problems generally expressed in metaphorical or allegorical language that require ingenuity and careful thinking for their solution, and conundra, which are questions relying for their effects on punning in either the question or the answer."

Well considering they didn't do the first port in house, i think its pretty likely, and it was only one guy who ported the first game, and shadow warrior 2 is way more serious of a game to port, its probably better to put it in the hands of people that know what there doing, not saying the dev's don't know what there doing, But we'll have to wait and see.

How do you know if it's likely or not? Flying Wild Hog used external developers to port Shadow Warrior (Aaron Melcher and initially Edward Rudd). Then supposedly Leszek Godlewski who used to port various games was working for them, but then he announced that he isn't working on Linux games anymore. We have no direct information that FWH have any Linux developers in-house (unless you've seen otherwise?). So why can't they hire Feral to do it?

I'm an idiot. If the logo stands for Macha (goddess of war) and "made to wade" comes from lyrics of Crass - Major General Despair (as Feral have used slightly obscure songs before) then a logical solution is Dawn of War III. This would also be levering an existing relationship with developers Relic Entertainment (Dawn of War 2, Company of Heroes 2) and publisher Sega (Total War series)

Dawn of War III would be possible. But how the logo is connected to Macha and how Macha is connected to Dawn of War and how this is connected to the song?

Because it's completely arbitrary. By this we could think of more then 100 other games. Shadow Warrior don't solve the riddle anyway. There is no strong connection to "MADE TO WADE" or to 茶 - chá.

The fact that Feral has never ported a game for this publisher does not make it more likely. If we use your "could-be" approach we get dozens of games that would fit. So we could guess as well. Why Shadow Warrior 2 and not Hard Reset Redux for example?

Personally I think that relating the logo of the Macha tea company to Macha the goddess of war is the strongest idea so far. So for now I'm siding with thed4rkn1te and say Dawn of War III.

There is a connection with SW. There is some book character called Wade (and books are accidentally called Shadow Warrior). Make a quick search "Wade Shadow Warrior", and the phrase "made to" reminds me of something mentioned in SW1 in one of the fortune cookies, I need to look it up. Also, the symbol looks like one of the monsters with a helmet in the second game. At least I got such association right away. Overall, on associative scale, I'd vote for SW2.

I can't see what this have to do with our riddle. You have a connection to Wade by a name. But this is far away to solve the riddle. This is just an association.

茶 + MADE TO WADE = cha

This reminds me on Bayonettas Cha Cha Slide:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7eF3rLMyVY

:)

Just kidding. But there are currently a lot of rumors about new Bayonetta Games/Ports.

While I'm sure that also SW2 will come to Linux, I doubt strongly that Feral will make the port. They already had confirmed a Linux version:

http://linuxgamenews.com/post/121296721452/shadow-warrior-2-coming-to-linux-mac-pc-in-2016
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/sadly-it-looks-like-shadow-warrior-2-wont-be-a-day-1-linux-release.7982

So they announce it first, then they do not talk about it anymore and then Feral creates a riddle for it?

What kind of chaotic strategy is this? :)
