Update: The developer told me on Twitter that the game has been delayed until May 23rd.

Geneshift [Steam, Official Site], previously known as Subvein: Mutant Factions, a top-down shooter with vehicles will officially launch on April 27th (Early Access) and they also have a demo now too.

Check out the shiny new trailer:

I've tested the demo out myself and it is flawless for me on Arch! It seems to perform well and it has pretty decent multi-monitor support too. It actually displays on my correct monitor and has plenty of options to tweak to your liking.

The demo has a limited part of the campaign to play and some online servers to join, so you can give it a good test before the release this month.

About the game
Geneshift is a top-down shooter bursting with brutal gunplay and insane vehicle action. Unlock mutant skills and outplay your friends in tactical online combat. Then play the co-op campaign to discover unlocks, battle zombies, and as always - save the world.

If you do try it, be sure to let me know what you think! Might be a game to play during livestreams if there's enough interest. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Have just completed the demo and found it a very enjoyable game. Specular Lighting selected caused my game to crash but apart from that the game ran smoothly and without a hitch. Recommended :-)

The graphics and art style reminds me of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.

Reminds me of good ol' Gta2 , when you were going round the city doing a mission in a mob district where the mob hated you and every other person on the street was shooting at your car.
Man , fun old memories :)

Great game that I follow for many years already - I even submitted to GOL some articles about it in the past!

Very fun action multiplayer game (and now also with singleplayer campaign). Definitely recommended.

The developer actually emailed the news in themselves and mentioned it due to us covering it before :)

I bet the developers are quite chuffed to have their game compared favourably to GTA2, I haven't tried the demo yet but just from the trailer it's going to be in my bought list very shortly after release.

Hey guys, bencelot the developer here! Just want to say thank you for writing this article, I really appreciate it. And I certainly welcome comparisons to GTA2, it was a huge inspiration for me!

I also wanted to say that as of this morning the release date has been pushed back a few weeks to May 23rd, 2017. I've been getting too much valuable feedback from the demo and I want to give players the best starting experience possible. Anyway I'll shoot you a message over Twitter so you now this is me.

Hope to see more linux gamers soon! Try the free demo :D

I'm in. As said above I loved gta2 and this definitely reminds me of it. And hi bencelot. Again it's great to see devs getting involved and communicating with us on here :-)

The game looks good, I'll have to try out the free demo when I'm next on.
