OpenRA is easily one of my favourite open source projects. It allows us to play early Westwood RTS games like Red Alert and Dune 2000 in a modern engine on Linux. The latest release is a good one too.
Highlights:
Also this handy new feature:
When attempting to join a multiplayer lobby, if it's running a different mod to what you have loaded, it will prompt you to switch. When you switch, it will re-load the correct mod and put you into the requested lobby.
They also plan to completely remove the mod launcher from the game, which you use to pick between Red Alert, Dune 2000 and Command & Conquer. It will be replaced by seperate launchers for each one, so in future the engine will be less tied to these specific games. While it will make it better for people using the engine to make new games, it sounds like a step backwards in terms of ease of use:
Hopefully it won't be as messy as that sounds, I don't see why they can't do both, an in-game mod switcher is pretty helpful.
See the release notes here.
I love this game engine, we've played a fair bit of it here to for-fun and on livestreams including a small tournament a while back. I think it might just be time to revive it for another tournament!
Highlights:
- HiDPI font rendering.
- 7 more missions for the Dune 2000 campaign.
- Some major multiplayer bug fixes.

QuoteThe next release (later this year) will complete the mod-support transition by removing the in-game mod chooser and support for manually installed mod packages: all mods (both official and community) will be listed individually with their own names and icons in your Start Menu / Dock / Launcher.
Hopefully it won't be as messy as that sounds, I don't see why they can't do both, an in-game mod switcher is pretty helpful.

Curios if anyone made any original content for this game-engine.
How cool would it be to have a Generals mod in this old school looking engine :)
