The developer of the open source Playstation 3 emulator 'RPCS3' [GitHub, Official Site] has improved Linux support recently.
Speaking on Patreon, they said:
On top of better Linux support, the developer noted they have been working on improved support for PS3 dynamic link libraries and a new loading mode that helps more games to work.
The emulator is still in the early stages, but it's good to see one being made in the open. I fully believe emulators are important, especially when the original units stop being sold.
I compiled it from the GitHub and here's the interface as of right now:
I don't have any PS3 roms to test it myself, but it at least compiles to give you the UI.

QuoteLinux support: improved stability, ALSA audio backend is implemented for low-latency sound. Automatic Linux builds may be ready soon.

Hmm, I'll have to revisit building this. Had trouble in the past, even on Arch Linux. I'd love to get an early build up for Debian/SteamOS.

last time I gave it a try it compiled fine but it needed a lower LLVM then the one I had, so at the end I was able to launch the emulator and so on but not to play any game (same errors and a black screen for everyone I tried).

It was a pain the last time I tried to to compile it. But I found a very good community support on her Github site.

Can't wait for Demon's Souls being fully playable. Maybe even moddable...

i compiled it on fedora, and it downloaded some submodules about vulkan. But i can't see Vulkan engine on the settings, just OpenGL.

Cloning from git right now. The official website looks interesting, though it puzzles me as to why they explicitly list all those commercial games, and have patreon links, etc. I'm asking this as a totally clueless noob, but wouldn't that draw the ire of Sony et al.?

It's still difficult on anything prior to Debian Sid.

Sweet, maybe this will replace my aging PS3 that has issues reading disks randomly.

He probably had firmware in mind, when he said 'rom'. These emulators require system software ripped from the actual ROM chips of a console.

Edit:
Says right on the page, you just need to download the firmware update file.
