Starbound [Official Site], the 2D survival sandbox game from Chucklefish is going to get a lot bigger, specifically space travel is going to get much bigger.

The next big update will expand space travel with a brand new interface. Your ship will become more important than ever, as not only will you be visiting planets, but space stations and other ships. They have a new interface for that too:

They do note that is a work in progress interface, so it may look quite different when it's polished up and released.

Here's an example of a space station you might find, which will have unique merchants and other goodies:

Finally, they will also add in mech units:

They've said these mech units will customizable, with colours and various weapons. These will be essential to the new space exploration, so you will end up using them rather a lot if you decide to do some space exploration.

You can find the various updates about it on their official blog.

This makes me very interested in taking another look at it, after burning out on it while it was in Early Access.

They've also officially sold over 2.5 million copies, which is pretty amazing. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I played it a lot when it was just pre-cooked in Early Access (about 60+ hours), and then i never managed to like it again despite many returns. Maybe the next update will bring my pleasure back ?

I bought this game when it was in Early Access, played 20 hours straight, it was fantastic, then "it should mature, lets wait", and I never played it again, and I hardly find the will to play it again, despite all the faboulous updates :(

There was a weekend that my friends and I planned a LAN party during the holidays. We decided to play Starbound as the first game in the morning and play action games later. We ended up playing Starbound for 7 hours before stopping. It was great.

I also played a lot of it during early access when there wasn't much to do. I crafted the best armor and weapons and stopped playing, as that was about it.

The game is so much better now, but I couldn't get myself to play it, I lose interest after 10 minutes.
