They already have Linux experience, since Big Robot developed 'Sir, You Are Being Hunted' which does support Linux.
I decided to check for the inevitable "Linux?" forum post on Steam and sure enough it was there. Today a developer replied to it with this answer:
QuoteOn release, Tolva is going to be Windows only. We've had some technical issues on other platforms and we've not been able to get them working for the release date.
That said, we will be looking at Mac & Linux builds post-release to see what we can do. We can't promise anything, but it's definitely something we'd like to support.
That sounds reasonably positive and I've shown my support of it as something I would personally play on Linux.
About the game
The Signal From Tölva is a journey into a wild science fiction landscape, filled with danger and beauty: you must survive terrible hazards, navigate through impossible spaces, and fight an ongoing battle to control this haunted, blighted world. You will make use of a range of powerful tools to overcome your enemies and uncover secrets: hack robots to battle alongside you, equip powerful weapons, and detonate savage defence systems.
Fight, explore, and solve the mystery of The Signal From Tölva!

So if the game engine miraculously starts working with minimal involvement and the planets line up just right they may think about releasing it with the conditions that should it ever break in an update they won't be particularly bothered to fix it?
It's honestly what I get from the wording but at least the developers show some interest which is better than none.

I would really like to have this game on Linux. It looks fantastic (the surreal graphic style is awesome) and the gameplay seems to be very cool according to most testers. Hook me up when they release a Tux version.

I totally get where you're coming from there. The only thing I would say in Big Robot's favour is their Linux support of 'Sir, You Are Being Hunted' was absolutely first class. It's one of my favourite games ever and I played it from the first alpha right through to release and I can honestly say I didn't have a single issue (that I remember now anyway!) and it was totally on par with the Windows version all through development.
I think it may have been the first game I Kickstarted and unfortunately being so good it gave me a skewed view of this. After a few others, where I got burned, I soon came to my senses regarding crowdfunding ;)

Sometimes when a developer says, ["we might get around to a Linux port later,"](https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/inner-chains-yet-another-kickstarted-title-to-delay-linux-support.9486) I give it as much credence as a smoker's avowed "Last Cigarette," but this isn't one of those times.
As much as Big Robot has broken my heart by releasing Signal from Tolva on Windows alone, I believe them when they say they want to bring the game to Linux (and that other, fruity OS). Admittedly, my faith is founded upon the rather flimsy premise of Big Robot's out-of-the-gate support for Linux with "Sir ... Hunted" and no doubt coloured by my really, really, really wanting to play this game.

Shame there's no multiplayer/coop. Still I'd check it out when/if it gets ported. :)
