On May 25th there's a Vulkan event happening in the UK. Organised by Khronos UK, there will be a number of interesting talks including Croteam and Feral Interactive.

This would be a good time for anyone in and around the UK interested in getting stuck in with Vulkan to hear the experiences of many different developers.

It will run on Thursday, May 25th from 9:00 AM to 4:15 PM and the list includes ARM, Croteam, Feral Interactive, Fishlabs (TBC), Imagination Tec and possibly more.

When finished, a bus will take everyone to the Cambridge Beer Festival, so it sounds like a lot of fun. Space is limited, so act fast if you plan to attend.

Nice to see two Linux-friendly developers get stuck in doing more talks, hopefully there will be some form of video or slides for those that cannot go.

Cambridge is a little far away for me, but if they do a similar event in Edinburgh or Glasgow, I'd be interested in attending.

FWIW while there's limited space for the talks, the beer festival is open to all afterwards!

The talks will be pretty hardcore dev focussed anyway (but will be uploaded afterwards), so if you're more interested in saying hi to devs then come on down to the festival instead.

The leash of Bethesda is probably not long enough.

They need Epic and Unity there. Vulkan adoption will make more shit work in VR (at least I'm pretty sure that's why they aren't working.)

Any discussion of Vulkan is good. We need to hear it talked about more and more. I want to see it adopted on PC as the standard going forward not DX12.

I think that's starting to become much more possible. People and developers are finding that DX12 is not all it was hyped up to be (surprise, surprise) and Windows 10 adoption figures are not even halfway to the billion devices Microsoft projected/hoped for (surprise, surprise). People tend to use a more diverse set of operating systems for their devices than the Windows-centric world of old so I think it makes sense for developers to target the widest range of potential customers, and not just one version of Windows.
