On June 7th, Albion Online [Official Site] is set to get bigger again with the Hector update. This is the final update before the main release bringing it out of Beta.
Reminder: The game officially launches on July 17th, with no more player wipes after this date. There will be one last player wipe just before that date.
Albion is set to gain a Black Market feature, this new NPC will take player crafted equipment and distribute it out to the various mobs and chests in the world. It sounds a little odd, meaning all drops will be items created by other players. I imagine it would have to pay good for the items to make it worth it.
The revamped Hellgates will arrive with Hector too. These Hellgates are a mixture of PvP and PvE and it will come with a new map, mini-bosses and more. They sound manic and likely a lot of fun, but they also sound like you will need to put quite a bit of time into it before you will be able to enjoy them to the fullest extent.
The way the map is set out is also changing. They will be removing the current harbours and black zone cities in favour of a big portal. This new portal will allow you to travel for free to different black zones.
New mounts are on the way too! The Undead, Morgana and Keeper factions will drop crafting materials for a Tier 5 and Tier 8 mount. The Tier 8 mounts even come with their own special skills.
For people who like PvE, they are also revamping some of the solo dungeons. They will now be accompanied by a medium-sized mobcamp, several of which are new.
One of my pet peeves, the graphics, will get a slight improvement. The visuals on various armour sets is also being improved, so you will be able to tell the different tiers apart easier and they will also improve the actual graphics of the armour sets themselves. Still, they don't go far enough, the game still needs more graphical options, better AA being the most apparent that the game needs.
Another extremely welcome change is a big update to the Destiny Board UI, which is where you can track your progress towards unlocking tiers of everything in the game. Right now, it's confusing as hell and really not great. It's pleasing to know they agreed and so it will undergo a revamp too. They say they will be making it more user friendly, with the ability to customize the tracker.
See the full blog post for more, and also the update page for Hector.
Overall it's a pretty huge update, but I still think they really need some more PvE content, it's just not enough and what will be there for PvE still doesn't sound all that entertaining to do. I think they need a bigger variety in the types of mobs you can find, better loot and just more to do that isn't PvP.
We will most likely have a release-day livestream on July 17th for the final release!

I really love the idea of player crafted loot being dropped by mods. :) That is something truly unique, and makes the drops much more interesting and dynamic. :)

Agree with this. It makes such a big difference to the recent Ballistic overkill update and I believe AO is using Unity also, so it should be possible to implement some form of AA ( although hopefully not FXAA )
Im holding out on this title until there is a fully fleshed out campaign mode or at least Fallout/Skyrim based mission objectives, i hope in the mean time they implement AA and who knows even Vulkan eventually ..

Vulkan really wouldn't matter in this game, since it can already do 60fps on a potato.
Although, perhaps there would be a benefit as they get going more with the mobile client...

Fully agree.
Have not tried it but I definitely want a game to have good PvE before I step in.
Wonder what the retail price will be upon release.

I've been looking forward to this game for a long time, mainly because I want a go-to Linux MMORPG. But I am mainly a PvE player with friends and only dabble in PvP here and there. If PvE stinks, then I will sadly skip AO.
