Hyper Knights [Steam] is one of those titles I previously picked up thinking nothing of it, but it turned out to be a very fun experience.

The game has recently launched in full, so if you were holding off due to the Early Access label, feel free to go and pick it up.

You control a Knight with special combo abilities and you're attempting to take back control of all the lands. It has two map-modes, one where you're on sort-of world map to travel across and choose your next battle location and then the actual battle map where the carnage happens.

You enlist the help of hundreds of soldiers along with some more powerful Knights as well. The battles are manic, but extremely fun. The mixture of strategy as you direct your army to various points on the map, while you directly control and battle with your own Knight works surprisingly well.

What makes the combat especially interesting is that it's not just a mindless hack and slash, you have to hit specific buttons in a sequence to take down each enemy.

One of the recent updates is pretty fun, as it integrates with Steam to allow you have your Knights named after people on your friends list.

The developer has also said they've found a way to do multiplayer after some research, which they are now looking to make work. That's exciting, as it's damn fun in single-player, but a multiplayer version would certainly make this game even more worth it.

Features
  • Slash and Dash through your enemies
  • Command hundreds of minions
  • Recruit allied Knights to your cause
  • Upgrade your skills and learn powerful combos
  • Defend your lands from enemy attacks
  • Duel enemy Knights
  • Siege their castles and take back your land!

If it wasn't clear already, I do highly recommend it. One of my biggest indie surprises so far this year for sure. It's £3.99, so it's not going to bankrupt you. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.
