Since the level of toxic posts in the community has sadly risen, I have now rolled out the moderation queue approvals process that was in place on the forum into article comments too.

If you have seen a message above the comments box about being in the list, you can mostly ignore it. A side-effect of it, was that if you hadn't posted in the forum 3+ times (and the posts were approved), but you did make plenty of article comments, it would see you as having to go through the approvals process. I have since adjusted it to remove any older users from the mod queue who made at least 3 article comments.

It's in place for all new users, so we catch spam (and stupid troll accounts) and remove/ban before it hits live and annoys us and you.

I've also made it so I can force naughty users into an "always on" mod queue, so we can remove completely idiotic and toxic comments before they are posted. Hopefully this will make a few users re-think their attitude, rather than us having to outright ban people.

Does this affect your freedom of speech if I think you're being naughty and idiotic and force the queue to always be on for you? No. Very few sites don't moderate comments, don't be silly.

Part of my commitment to keeping this community as fun as possible for all. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

There's a link to the rules above the comment box ;)

Oh and as for trolls, I have no issues removing them. Anyone dancing around rules being an idiot deserves to be removed.

Well there we go then :) Typical of me - it's two inches from my nose and I somehow miss it :). They look pretty straight forward. If you add anything, I would suggest adding a rule about direct threats.

Hmm, as I am following this site for quite some time now and love to read the comments, I can only remember a handful of "toxic posts" in the past year or so. I guess that is due to moderation ;) ?
Anyway, if it is a problem for you as the site owner, and steals time which could be spent for other things, do it, it is your right and the community benefits from it too. So go on.

I haven't really noticed any toxic comments, but I'm one of those people who have "thick skin" as middle name.
Nezchan May 23, 2017
Is "thick skin" really a great thing to have? Doesn't it just mean giving awful stuff a pass? I would imagine that's not a great trait for someone moderating, and trying to make the site welcoming for a broad range of people.

Aryvandaar didn't actually make a value claim about thick skin (let alone a claim about its utility for a moderator), just said that's what he had. Seems plausible. I'm generally willing to assume most people's self-descriptions are true unless they prove them otherwise in the next sentence (which happens surprisingly often).

Are you sure Kels didn't just make a general comment to everyone who value thick skin?

I for one agree wholeheartedly with Kels view. Makes me want to hug him or her. <3

Frankly, I find it to be a really stupid term. Mainly used by people who look over things people put on the internet with the intent to stir up trouble and hurt people.

It's a dumb saying. Either way, I don't care if people think I am "thin skinned", I am who I am.
