For those who like their PVE content in an MMO, the Albion Online developers have shown off the Guardians. These huge beasts will require a party to take down.

Note: Albion Online will have a player wipe before the full release next month.

They will be found in Tier 6 resource hotspots, but there's no way to know if one is there without exploring. They are pretty hard to find, since once defeat it can be between 12 and 48 hours before they respawn. So it's a fun feature, but I feel that not many will actually get to see them.

What bugs me here, is that while it's great Albion Online has more PVE content, you still need to be a high level and have a reasonably sized crew to take them down. The developers actually recommend a group of 10 people team up to take them down, so that could reduce the amount of people who manage to do it even more.

You can find an in-depth look at the Guardians here. They are live in-game right now to take a look.

They need more general PVE content, badly. A decent mix for low-mid tier players is going to be a must to keep the game interesting. While I really like the whole idea of Albion, there just isn't enough that doesn't involve PVP, which I fear could make me lose interest too quickly.

Introducing more game mechanics for PVE players would be good. Exactly what I'm not sure, but an old MMO called Ashen Empires I used to play had masses of it. Farming, mining, tons of different mobs and more. I just hope the Albion developers have plenty of content up their sleeves for post-release to keep it evolving.

Have you tried Albion yet, what do you think?

The game is quite broken on Linux right now, see here for some possible workarounds. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I play Albion since summer 2016, in small touches as i hate grinding for nothing (wipe before release) and too many changes in development to really "play", so i only "test". Or tested, as i am now waiting for the last wipe to start again.

It has great potential, but great flaws too.

I think we can talk a lot about Albion, but we won't know how it really plays until next falls, when first players have left, and "real" players have settled, with a real economy going on.

I hate the GUI, more specifically the destiny board, completely ugly and badly designed. I fear also the game will only be enjoyable for zerg guilds with heavy hardcore players who can sustain high level stuff. Also, there is very little room for roleplayers, if any, as all the game is going toward a fighting process (gather to build weapons to kill to get resources to gather to...). So, the "sandbox" is looking more like an ammo box.

Me, i intend to play casual, solo with random group, not willing to be high ranked or famous.

Yes, I also don't get why a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game is not soloable... Why can't everything be like WoW, which is like a nice chat in a Singleplayer, with the occasional (anonymous) partying content?

-.-

Same for the PVP rants all the time, in the comments. I mean, I get it: A lot of people want to PVE. It's fine by me. Maybe that game simply isn't for you, maybe the devs know that and want it that way.

What I don't get is people trying to make a MASSIVELY (!) Multiplayer game to become some small coop game. Really, doesn't want in my head. Maybe I am simply too old.

No, you're not too old, you're just over-interpreting the "massive" in MMO. "Massive" doesn't mean that you need a massive amount of people to get anything done. It just means that you are sharing the world with a massive amount of people. You can be a lone wolf in such a game and still enjoy being a part of a large community and interacting with them indirectly, e.g. by crafting or trading. Like in...you know...real life, where you don't HAVE to join an international corporation to making a living, either.

I am not a fan of WoW, but it was indeed the first game to recognize above circumstance. While this game here seems to want to make a point of repeating really every single mistake ever made in the design of MMOs and combining them in one single game. World bosses that can be killed only with large zergs and have insane respawn times to REALLY make sure that only 1337 zerg guilds will ever manage to kill it, for they will be the only ones able to camp the spawn point at the right time and defend it?

I laughed.

And booted into Windows to play a MMO that's actually fun.

Yep, totally this.

I've played about 30-40 MMOG since 1999 and i enjoyed most of them being solo or in small -often picked up- groups, and i enjoyed this a lot.

The biggest failing Albion has, in my opinion, is it's complete and utter lack of any story whatsoever. I mean, there are lore bits to be found here and there and you could eventually piece together something vaguely resembling a story, I guess, but you are just given no direction whatsoever. I understand this is a sandbox game and you're supposed to "make your own story", but even the most sandboxy open ended games generally give you something to work with at the beginning. Usually a game gives you at least some kind of broad direction, or at least an overview of current affairs or world state at the beginning. In Albion you get dropped into a world, tasked with crafting a few basic items to teach you how to gather and craft aaaaaand... nothing. I wish the game gave you something, ANYTHING, to have some kind of story, direction, purpose as to why you are endlessly grinding. Why? Why am I swinging a pickaxe for hours on end? To what purpose? Give me some reason to brave the wilds and swing a pickaxe other than so I can swing a better pickaxe better in the future. This game gives you nothing. No direction, no quests, nothing.

Funny. Me, i absolutely don't care about the "story" in a self called "sandbox" game. A setting is enough, and we have it. The story, as much as almost everything in the game, should be player driven.

So many players, with so many different wills...

The big question is, will these bosses be in pvp areas? Cause then everyone who has ever played in such an area knows how it will be played out: massive amounts of ganking and nobody but the biggest guilds have the faintest chance of getting the drop.
