This is a game I’m rather excited by, being a rather big fan of the old Castlevania games. It’s a spiritual successor to those games, being made by many of the people involved with the originals. It was successfully crowdfunded nigh on two years ago and is expected to have a simultaneous release on Linux as well as other platforms.

Whipping and slashing enemies as you explore a demon-filled castle full of secrets is the core of the game. You control Miriam, an orphan afflicted with a curse that’s slowly turning her skin into crystal. In order to stop the curse, she must venture into the castle and locate its summoner. The thought of awesome music coupled with tight controls and gameplay is something that makes the old fanboy in me drool with anticipation. The game is expected to be released some time early next year and hopefully it’ll turn out to be everything that fans want. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

Cool if it gets released on Linux , but , is she fighting in high heels ? By the end of that castle , crystal skin will be the last of her problems...

...is she fighting in high heels ?
Female attire in video games rarely makes sense. I was playing Xenoblade Chronicles on my New 3DS, and I had to face-palm when the armor upgrade for a sensibly dressed woman was a bikini. Video game logic at its best.

Highly impractical clothing used for action is a common trope in games. Female characters are more commonly affected by it. This trope is often made fun of:

Which doesn't mean male characters aren't affected by other tropes. Consider some characters making rolls and other acrobatic moves in heavy plate armor(!). Yeah, right.

I just reached a place in Book of Unwritten Tales 2 where they made fun of the armor as well. With the salesman being confused about the problem because both the male and female version had the same stats. :D

Looking forward to this game though. Progress is looking good. Which I'm happy about because this is still the only game I backed.

I'm struck by the game's appearance, wondering what I would call that. I've settled on 3D Side Scroller for the nonce.

Is that real? Quite surprising indeed.

Why it reminds me Dust: An Elysian Tail?
Though I like the game.

I'm gonna be the negative one here, and say I think it looks bad... the 3D models doesn't hold up for the style, and I'm getting bad "Mighty no.9" vibes here (makes sense since Inti Creates are developing it..), and that ended up as a sad imitation of the original, even with Keiji Inafune behind it.

A game like Blasphemous look 10x better IMHO.

Well, they demonstrated the blow absorption at the beginning of the video…
From what I heard only jousting armor was so unwieldy that knights could not saddle a horse in it without external support, actual combat armor were lighter. And on top of that while heavy indeed, it had rational weight distribution on the whole body so all those 35+ kg as armor is not the same thing as 35+ kg in the hand or as backpack.

In this genre, Slain is also pretty good. And unlike nll_a above, I actually appreciate that it's done in pixel art style. As long as it's not overdone (way oversimplified pixelation, like same games), it's good.

I couldn't disagree more. I love 2D games, but I hate fugly pixels...
I hear what you are saying, and personally I'm tired of the flood of games using "retro pixel art" style, as a visual gimmick, without proper reason. However, in some cases the style fits, and I'm impressed with the amount of detail that can be expressed. Especially the Castlevania games I associate with great pixel art, so for me it makes sense that "clones" (harsh word, but..) are expressed the same way. Would I prefer beautiful, highres sprite work ala Hollow Knight and SteamWorld Heist? Absolutely! I can still appreciate and respect the amount of work put into some "retro pixel art" games, though.

I'll be really happy if the Bloodstained trailer is representative of the final visual state of the game. It's already looking very nice IMO.
I cannot appreciate or respect the work put into the 3D art in Bloodstained as it looks now. Working with 3D myself (for TV/film, not games), I think the result looks cheap and lazy, and completely devoid of atmosphere. If this was early work in progress, fair enough, but looking at how Mighty No. 9 turned out, this is most likely as good as it gets. I'd choose "stairwells of ugliness" crafted with love and thought over generic and lifeless 3D anyday.

I found the "knees inwards" defensive position far more troublesome to be honest. That looks really, really, cringe worthy.
