Dawn of War III [Steam] arrives on Linux tomorrow and we now know exactly what kind of system is needed to run it, come check it out.
Minimum
3.4GHz Intel i3-4130
Ubuntu 16.04
8GB RAM
Nvidia 650Ti with 1GB of VRAM.
Recommended
3.4GHz Intel i7-4770
Ubuntu 16.10
8GB RAM
Nvidia 980Ti with 4GB of VRAM.
AMD and Intel graphics cards are not supported on OpenGL. However, Vulkan is supported on AMD with Mesa 17.1 or 17.2-devel for Intel. Note: Vulkan is currently still experimental in Dawn of War III.
It's likely AMD will gain support for OpenGL in Dawn of War III with Mesa 17.2, going by all the work going into Mesa right now.
Also, Feral are livestreaming Dawn of War III tonight, event is on our livestreams event page. I will be doing a release-day livestream as well tomorrow, which is also listed on that page (as long as there's no sudden issues), you're all welcome to join in if you can download it in time.

Curios how this plays.
Steam reviews are a mixed bag and don't always seem reliable.

In DOW 2 because of the deterministic engine both OS-es calculate things differently so you cannot play with people on Windows.
In DOW 3 there is same issue , but it may be fixed. Maybe.
That's what the image of the two lovers , separated by a wall or something , represents .

Hopefully this will run well with only 6GB. I don't feel like paying $100 to upgrade my ram.

Depending on your configuration, you might be able add 4 GB for ~30 bucks or 2 GB for ~15.

The system requirements are definitely higher than Windows... I am going to assume those are the OpenGL requirements. With Vulkan, I'd still expect the requirements to be higher than Windows, but somewhat less higher as I don't expect this game to be super heavily optimized for Vulkan.

I've been shopping around and the cheapest I could find for my 6 year old motherboard is $100 for 8GB.
Almost makes me want to put together a new $300 computer, with much better specs, at those prices.

Feral's Vulkan works are not exactly native ports as i understand from recent Vulkan panel.
Only native and true Vulkan game is, id's Doom.

@Leopard: The ports are native ports. They do have a full native vulkan graphics backend. What is true is that they do have an abstraction layer code-whise which maps D3D features to Vulkan to make ports easier / straight forward and reduce development time. That was to be expected, and I expect they had the same thing done for OGL. My best guess is that they do have files and classes named as the D3D classes are with the same functions, calling their respective OGL/Vulkan backend implementing those features. They for sure optimize the layer based on the game though.
Croteam did the same, but Croteam wants to (or did?) remove that layer. They can, Feral is pretty limited since they need it to make ports profitable. They can and do not rewrite every game and engine to Vulkan/OGL. That's simply not feasable without an abstraction layer, so they will certainly not "drop" this thing. All we hope is that they optimize the layer well enough for each game.
Note that those abstraction layers are no huge overhead. It's not like wine.

butbutbut I have a Ryzen CPU :(
the posts on the DoW3 steam community get ransacked by a lot who are butthurt. Maybe there are issues but a mate who is into Warhammer4k like me likes he (he prefers DoW2 while I preferred DoW1 ) so we will see... from what I have figured it is itching for an expansion Chaos + IG would reinvigorate the game

The heavy metal towers really made want to buy this game! :-D
It's suspiciously bad programming to not make windows and linux compatible for online play. As a programmer I can only shake my head in disbelief. However, there's nothing wrong with the rest of the game experience. Besides, friends don't let friends run Windows when they can run Linux.

Well , it's Relic and their engine.
Probably it was never built with cross-os compatibility in mind.
On DOW2 it's a dead deal , but with DOW3 Feral said they might be able to port it in the future. Maybe. So there' still some hope.

I wondered myself, but there's an explanation...
