Heavy Gear Assault [Steam] has just had a major upgrading include a rework of the UI, which was quite badly needed.
I've tested it and it's a massive difference. The game actually looks a lot smarter, more welcoming and that's going to be quite important if they hope to gain an active player-base.
The menu still has issues with the mouse position for me, with the mouse not quite lining up correctly to some of the buttons, but that's only minor.
The actual gameplay seems a bit better now, when first joining it will give you some of the basic controls on-screen to prevent less confusion. Although they never seemed to go away for me, so I guess they haven't put their display on a timer yet.
See their update here. Overall, this and the last few patches had made it a much nicer experience overall.
I hope as development goes on more people get into it, as a true mech battler on Linux would be really fun. A type of game I'm always interested in playing, but it has a long way to go yet.

I hope this comes to fruition. I've had fun using mechs within games (Fear 2, Red Faction: Guerilla, etc.) but I've never seen a mech game that I felt I wanted to play, so I'm excited to see a promising one not only coming into existence, but coming to Linux as well!

The moment they offer or are planning single player options I'm in. I loved Heavy Gear 2, and I would want to play that again.
