Machinarium [Official Site], an award-winning adventure game from Amanita Design that came to Linux back in 2012 in a Humble Bundle. It used Flash, but that's now been replaced in favour of a new DirectX engine. The developer say the new version will come to Linux!

You can find the full announcement here, but the key point is this comment from the developer:
You can't link directly to Steam news comments, sadly, but it's a few pages back on it.
The new update adds in Steam Cloud saves, achievements, gamepad support and more.
Hopefully it won't take too long for them to get an updated Linux build sorted and put up onto Steam. Even with the old Linux release they never did put it on Steam, so I hope they do this time too.

I hope Samorost 3 will come to Linux some day too.

heh heh... really? remove flash means completele rewrite... and then when they go ahead and actually do that for an old title as this, it's a new _directx_ engine, to make it hard as possible to publish on multiple platforms?? well.. ok. I liked the game, don't get me wrong, played it through couple of times. just funny how things go..

This is one of my all-time favourite games. Adventure games age much better than most other games, and this one especially should be just as good now as when it was released.

If you like adventure game and puzzle, this game is a must to have. The windows flash version works very well with wine, I hope it will be the same for the new directx version. Once more time someone have to say to the developpers it's better to choose Vulkan for a multiplatform game, so why they choosed directx?

I just left them a comment or two on the steam discussion about Vulkan. I don't expect much of an answer as it's already been 5 years since the game was in the Humble Bundle.

I can't really access steam from work, but I don't think this game will need Vulkan unless the dev wants to use it as a testbed for future games that do need it (i.e for learning). It would be better to use OpenGL most likely - faster to port, more stable drivers right now, and more hardware support on older computers that should still be able to play this.Anything but DirectX would be better as a starting point for them to port to Linux

It's a dumb move.
I don't understand why they are porting to dx, many devs are looking for android, wich is the hottest market now.

I just tested the new Machinarium version: it works very well with wine 2.10 staging. I didn't test with other wine version. It seems more polished, more translation and more adapted for modern computer and HD screen.

That's interesting news. I have it, I finished it, I loved it, I have other Amanita Design games and I hope they will also make Samorost 3 work under GNU/Linux. I really wanted to play the game and having the other games working just fine with Linux Mint I thought Samorost 3 would also work, but they didn't support GNU/Linux and I didn't buy it.
Now back to Machinarium, someone asked about the GOG release (which I have), and they replied:
I might play it again once they finish the GNU/Linux port. :) I wonder if they'll use the same engine for the GNU/Linux build of Samorost 3. Hopefully it will be possible. I'd really like to have that game as well.

Very cool news. I was hoping to introduce my kids to Amanita Design's games sometime this year, but was dreading the whole flash aspect of getting them running.

Great news, but as everyone has already said, the choice of DirectX is really, really odd. They already know they are going to port it to non-DirectX systems and it's a game very suited for mobile - I really can't find any sense in picking DirectX over OpenGL :/

They've stuck with flash for a REALLY long time. I get the feeling that the tech they use is whatever their programmers happen to know well. They probably found someone that knows DirectX, so that's what they picked. Mac, Linux and mobile will be something they'll deal with "later".
