Fancy a free permanent copy of PAYDAY 2? [Steam] Well here's your chance as the developers are throwing 5 million copies away on Steam.

Yes, this is really a thing.

They even made a video about it, as they are making an "Ultimate Edition" of the game:

They have removed all the DLC for sale, since this new edition will include all DLC. This sounds good, since there was an insane amount of it.

Enjoy the free game everyone! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I already have the Ultimate Edition as I bought every single DLC they brought out.

The last time I played this game I wasn't able to play with my friends because the Linux version was behind the Windows version. I don't think they care too much about us.

I'm playing with my Windows friends since January or so and it has been working like a charm. More than a 100 hours on record and really enjoying this game, it enabled me to stop booting into W7 to play Battlefield 4 with them ^^

Been meaning to pick this up for some time but people generally warn against it because the community is generally not tolerant of new players.
Well, now that more people will have it, we could arrange some games of it ;)

I just got this game a couple of months ago but never played it because I couldn't change the monitor where it opened. It was annoying and ultimately unplayable. Hopefully this new edition will fix any remaining issues on linux.

What I usually do (using KDE) is to open the Steam overlay and alt-drag the game on the right screen. I posted it on the steam forums :)

There are however a few issues with updates: during the last game event, they did not update the version string of the Linux client, which meant no crossplay, even though the rest of the update was there... Someone wrote a mod to fix this, but I didn't bother.
The port isn't a priority for them, but it doesn't run bad otherwise :)

Hello! I'm the person who fixed the crossplay "bug" with a mod for Linux. Oh boy did Overkill screw up...

The game doesn't actually have that much content without DLC. On top of that it becomes unbearably grindy unless you're playing on higher difficulty settings, which in turn are unplayable without the overpowered DLC weaponry. Then even with overpowered weapons you'll still need teamwork, quality which will nosedive after introducing so many people at once and getting players who understand the game was already rare enough and after three years the AI is still incapable of actions other than shooting in this objective-based game.

It's decent if you have three friends to play with to be able to make any progress and some of the heist DLCs for gameplay variety, absolutely don't bother if you don't have any of these.
