As always, GamingOnLinux is entirely funded by the users for the users and hopefully we can stay online for a long time.
First of all, I just wanted to thank all contributors to my Patreon campaign! You are all wonderful people helping me do this, I feel incredibly privileged to be able to do this thanks to you. I write hundreds of articles every single month and I can’t overstate how thankful I truly am to have the ability to do it, because of you.
Recently I’ve been a bit disheartened by some of the messages left in the Patreon cancellation box, which are all 100% anonymous. To all past supporters: thank you, hope you come back sometime! I won’t quote them or get bogged down with it, some people must go into it without fully understanding me or how GOL runs, but that’s life! Can’t win them all as they say.
As always, thank you for everything and I hope how open I am about communicating, well, everything is appreciated by the community. I value open communication whenever possible!
My inbox is always open if anyone has an issue and I’m always in the IRC, Telegram and Discord channels.
Sidenote: Please don’t email me for personal user support, we have the Forum for that.
If you didn’t see in a previous article, I will be starting up the GamingOnLinux vs Feral Interactive weekly events once again starting Tuesday next week! Due to the time when Feral is able to do it, I will also be hosting a Dawn of War III evening event once a week as well. Hopefully we can get some good community games going for it. I look forward to being trashed by all of you! You can find all our scheduled events on this page.
I gave my Patrons a teaser on this earlier, but here’s a little something I’ve worked on recently:
Not real numbers, or a real game, just FYI. Don't go fishing for something!
It has been requested that I show the Min/Max FPS in benchmarks when I do them (if the benchmark provides them). I’m pleased to say (as the picture suggests) that it’s now possible. I’ve updated our Chart code to support it and it’s looking pretty good. As always, the code is entirely 100% open source on gitlab.
As usual, I won’t be asking for support like this for another month or two, because I just like to get on with it and not bug anyone.
If you fancy chipping in, head here: https://www.patreon.com/liamdawe, if not, thank you for reading this far! If you want to do a small one-time donation, Paypal is also now an option.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: Refuerzo1I'm considering to support you, Liam. I'm an eager reader of your work and articles, and all of them are brilliantly written, authentic and with knowledge of cause.Hey there, thanks for the kind words!
Your work should be fairly rewarded, and I haven't done it already cause I'm currently not gaining any money, so basically my mother would be supporting you at this stage, probably without knowing it. I will decide this in the next few days.
Meanwhile, keep on rocking my friend!
The world needs you.
César.
Please, and this goes to everyone, please do not feel forced into doing so. If you're able to, great, but don't force yourself if you cannot afford it :)

it's a bummer you've been getting some bad comments, but that's just gotta be part of the process, I would try to not let it bother you. As some other people have said, I'm just happy to support the work you're doing; in fact I suspect that large silent majority of your supporters (myself included) don't get too worked up about the special stuff you do for them and are just happy to support you and the site (note: if the reader is one of those people that does get excited by VIP treatment, then Liam does a great job doling out all kinds of goodies).

Quoting: Refuerzo1I'm considering to support you, Liam. I'm an eager reader of your work and articles, and all of them are brilliantly written, authentic and with knowledge of cause...Me too. Thank for paypal, as 5€ per month is too high for my wallet but I can spend more than 1€.
A typical web subscription to the best non-OS-specialized journal about gaming in France is 39 € per year VAT included (there are cheaper journals but less funny and objective in their tests). I can spend that amount of money per year to access GOL and would love to be premium for that (that's sound fantastic to be "premium" :D). Even if your works completely deserve it, you are a bit expensive Liam ^^
Can I suggest some potential developments for GOL, Liam?
1/ By reading many of your papers, I often feel that somewhere on the net, we lack of a more militant site that would organize, quantify, show and advertise requests, demands, etc. for linux gamers. A place where you can create a web page to vote (thus number for developers) for some ports or kind of games, indicate how much you would fund such port or buy those games on linux, for requests to sellers (e.g. GOG or itch) to do this or that, etc.
Structure of such webpage would be(? I don't develop website :'(): A title of the vote, a summary of the request, a list of possibilities, show the number of votes for each possibility...and a discussion section like for each of your paper to detail and discuss requests ;-)
2/ a list of games you wrote about with vote (readers will do, would rank game in this list per genre?) and keyword about the kind of game (type: RPG, Shooter, etc.; difficulty; age: I'm always looking ofr good ideas for my sons of 12 and my nieces and nephews of 5, 8, 15) to help us for choosing the next games we would play.. with link to steam, gog, itch, humble stores (they can remunerate you for that?)
3/ A (or some) clear webpage(s) where we can aggregate links (with a search engine?) pointing to useful developments and discoveries, like wine-wrappers, project like openMW, interesting mods for linux gaming on popular games, etc.

Just to clear up some things here :)
Quoting: Geppeto35Can I suggest some potential developments for GOL, Liam?I have considered such a system before, but it just likely wouldn't be worth it. The single best way is to tell developers directly.

Haven't really announced it, as it's still very much a work in progress.

Our news is generally the best way to keep up to date, but we do (usually) have our news correctly tagged. You can click a tag like the blue "Site Info" below the article, to then see all news in that category. If it's the name of a game, clicking it will go to the games page in the games database too, where all news items tagged for that game will also show :)

Quoting: rcritI still remember the dark days before GoL where finding reliable, reasoned news on Linux gaming was hit or miss and not even close in terms of real-time information. I'm happy to contribute to the site.
Agreed! This is the best Linux gaming site by far and has well written timely articles and interesting content, as Liam said in one of the above comments you would pay about the same or more for a gaming magazine and I find this site way more valuable than any gaming mag I've subscribed to in the past.
The youtube sessions must also take quite a bit of time out of his day so think that its fair that those who want to and can afford to can pay something to keep the site going. I don't subscribe at the free key level but even if I did I wouldn't do it specifically for the keys, that's just a nice extra 'thank you' for being a patreon.
