SAELIG [Steam] is a very interesting looking strategy, role-playing, simulation, and trading game that is planning a Linux release. It's seeing a slight delay, but the communication from the developer has been great.

The developer put out a news post detailing that Linux will be delayed. They also put out a forum post to discuss it, clearly stating both times that Linux is still planned. To quote the developer:
QuoteI'm pretty damn determined to get a Linux build out. I may need to enlist help from the community in the form of Linux gaming pros to help make it happen though.

It's not often we get such clear determination from a developer to put out a Linux build and be so open about it being delayed, but still coming. Refreshing to see really.

The same rule generally applies though, I wouldn't buy it until the Linux version is released to prevent disappointment if the delay goes on for too long.

About the game
QuoteSÆLIG is a strategy, role-playing, simulation, and trading game about the things that matter; life, death, money, and family. You will be in charge of managing the life and affairs of a young Anglo-Saxon in the kingdom of Wessex, a kingdom at constant war with Vikings. It is in this world that you must find a way thrive and make a name for yourself, and your family.

At its very core SÆLIG is a trading and management game centred around the accumulation of wealth, and the survival of your family. It also incorporates many role-playing and simulation features, including: relationships, buffs, skills, health, missions, needs, character based interactions, and direct character control.

The concept seems similar to The Guild II. Which for me is one of the best games I ever played. Sad it has so many bugs.

I will see how the SÆLIG will look when released.

Seeing this, Banished comes to my mind. Can you reach out to the dev for news Liam? Would be appreciated.

QuoteI may need to enlist help from [...] Linux gaming pros to help make it happen though.

That quote does not sound promising though. The need for other professionals to make it happen sounds like severe issues and a fundamental lack of ability to fix them.

Does anybody know what engine this game uses?

Seems interesting.
Banished comes to mind for me as well.

Will wait for a full release , and hopefully a review/playthrough from a certain Linux gaming site ... ^_^

I'm fairly certain that quote is means they need help from Linux gamers to alpha test - a lot of developers are still very intimidated by the number of distros.

That's what I thought at first as well, but the wording is so strange if so. A professional gamer? Wtf is that? One that participates in e-sports? But yeah, you may be right.

Quoting: Guppya lot of developers are still very intimidated by the number of distros.

And that is very understandable. If I were them I'd just aim for the distro that Steam itself supports, Ubuntu, and leave it at that. Plain and simple.

It doesn't say professional gamer, but gaming pro. The later is still vague because it doesn't really say anything more than you being a gamer and pro at something. Considering that this is a one man job, there's probably some need for some help on Linux specific issues. So he could possible need some help with things like dependencies (a common source of issues for new devs) or maybe some pointers in Linux specific pitfalls present in whichever engine he is using.

And that's exactly my point. What else could they mean by "professional", really. It couldnt be "professional gamer" they meant. So yeah, someone who's technically professional. And that, to me, does not bode well for the Linux version of this game - if it ever surfaces.
