For those hardware enthusiasts looking for a cheap purchase, you might want to know that Amazon and GAME have discounted the Steam Link and Steam Controller.
Note: These are direct links, not referral links.
For the US (and possibly others)
The Steam Link is sitting at $15, which is absolutely nuts for such a useful device. A good network setup is required though!
The Steam Controller is sitting at $34.99.
For the UK
Since Amazon UK doesn't have them for sale, GAME do!
The Steam Controller from GAME is discounted to £27.99 and the Steam Link is currently down to £11.99.
I still fully recommend a Steam Controller, as I use mine every single day without fail. I use one on my desktop PC and one on my bedroom TV PC, it's such a versatile device. SC Controller is also quite essential, if you plan to use it outside of Steam.
This article was updated after publishing to reflect GAME also having them on sale.

Valve tend to do their hardware deals at Game.co.uk in the UK. The Steam Link is on sale there for £12!

Wow, 15 for the Steam Link? Anyone know if the NVIDIA Shield is any better at what the Link does? Though I will say I thought one bug was due to the Link, but it's actually big picture mode on Linux. If you have the family view thing on, and you need to put in your pin number, the first number always just plops out four numbers, then you have to backspace and put in the right ones. Suppose I should report such bug...

Opposite to the intent of the last sentence in the article, for me here in Norway, Amazon will gladly ship me both of these, but buying direct through Steam is not possible. Still considering a controller :)

Ah, now my previous comment looks a little weird. Game.co.uk seems like the better option for Europe anyway, seems like fairly cheap shipping :)

I returned mine. Could not get a good experience with it even on a perfect 100/100 LAN. Also fiddling with my Linux firewall wasn't fun and produced some performance issues and I ended up having to disable it entirely. I think it would be more useful for as a range extender for watching Youtube or Steam Broadcasts on the living room TV.
As an aside ((probably not going to concern anyone but this is a Linux forum so maybe)) if you do buy from Steam for a measly £11/$15 for such a small price they now have your full postal/zip code, home address.. aswell as you IP from Steam and if you use steam guard mobile your phone number too. For me there is a difference between a retail store with no social media presence and Steam. But as i said that might not concern anyone ^_^
that is a dirt cheap price though.

It may be wise to wait a little while. The Steam Summer Sale is rumored to start today in 2 hours (1pm EST, 5pm GMT) I would say there is a good chance of it being on sale directly from steam during the sale.
That being said, is it generally worth picking it up? I have a bunch of games on steam, but i know game controller support on linux can be spotty. Will it at least work with the majority of games through steam?

Was about to buy the Steam Link from GAME, but they ran out of stock before I managed to make the payment after filling my address :( Looks like I'll have to wait for the Steam's own summer sale.
Edit: Or not. Tried again and it worked. :D
