An open-world pixel art survival game that resembles Mad Max? I think I might be in a little bit in love with Ashworld [Steam, Official Site].

The latest game from Orangepixel plans to launch with day-1 Linux support sometime this year, check out the trailer:

The mix of an open-world top-down approach, with a side-scrolling view when exploring what looks like caves certainly caught my attention, as did the mental looking car action.

It will feature:
  • Run and drive around the ragelands, visiting buildings, talking to people, beating up ragers and skellies.
  • Use a host of weapons: boomerangs, chainsaws, rocket launcher, shotgun, machinegun, plasma rifle, flame thrower.
  • Search through buildings, underground cavern's, and unexplored area's of the Ashworld for usable items.
  • Drive a host of different cars, all with their quirks and challenges.
  • A host of story missions and sub-missions to guide you around the world.
  • Crafting new weapons and tools
  • Increase your experience points and use skill points to improve your character

I do always love the graphical style of Orangepixel's games, but the gameplay of their games usually ends up falling a little flat. This might be the title for them to finally properly win me over, it certainly sounds like everything I want.

As noted in the trailer it will launch on Steam, itch.io and Humble Store. What do you think, will you grab a copy? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Hmm , the premise seems good. Would not mind a post apocalyptic survival game.
However while I do like pixelated style graphics , that's too few pixels for my liking.
It's like that Last Door game. It gets to the point where it is hard to tell "what the f***" anymore.

Looks very interesting. And being on itch.io is very nice, too!

I grew up in the pre-3D era of video games, when "state-of-the-art" was "pixel art," so for me the aesthetic is something a game must rise above. Ashworld looks like it might very well do just that. I'll be keeping my eye on this'n.
