Ballistic Overkill [Steam], one of the best online shooters on Linux has updated again and it now has better matchmaking, if you don't want to manually pick a server.
Note: You might still need to add this to your Steam launch options to not get a black screen
Also, if you want to try the Vulkan version use this launch option:
All official servers are now hidden, instead you have a "Play Now" button to matchmake based on your skill and ping. Then you have the community servers list, which is where you will find ours.
One thing that had been annoying, was that the teams would never get balanced. They've finally put auto balancing teams back in! When a game finishes, the teams will now be split based upon their scores. This is to ensure good players are spread across each team. The downside is that you won't always be able to play on the same team now, so there's a little catch there.
See the release announcement here.
Our three servers are up to date, so you can hop right in.
I still think they should have done a re-think of their map design during Early Access. Spawn camping on both sides is a constant issue, with people jumping in and out of their safe zone, or people sitting outside ready to shoot as you come out. This is the biggest issue with the game right now.

-force-vulkan

So... I've tried it out, took some time to get to a game, also got killed through walls more than usual. On the other hand, the games I got into were intense, with each ending up pretty close, so the team were really better balanced. Can't say more right now, perhaps just that cranes in Overhead were speeding up during one game until their movement became rather comic :D

Ok, tried it out.
Had two pretty nicely balanced and enjoyable games, and two totally dumb ones, where balance did not work that much. Also some servers seem to be under-stuffed, and that means the matches suffer a lot...
Would be nice to have the option to log to the server of my choice....

Ballistic has been crash-prone on me since their Vulkan update. Any mention of stability fixes?

Does this one have some kind of single-player? Or at least bots?

Quoting: dorronDoes this one have some kind of single-player? Or at least bots?Nope and nope.
Only multiplayer. And that is the small issue with this game - you either shoot other people for "no reason" (=read no e.g. background story etc) on quite colorful maps, or you choose to start a different game with different content for different experience. There is no "in between" for this game...

Thanks, mate! Good to know. Unfortunately it's a no go for me then...

This is a little too late for me. I already gave up on the game.
