Pressure Overdrive [Official Site, Steam] is an interesting mash-up between driving and shooting with your customizable steambuggy. The developer sent over a key, so I've given it a play and it's really quite fun.

It's actually a revamp of a title orginially released in 2013, this time with improved visuals, improved weapons, better controls and so on.

It does come with one major problem, which is that videos only give you a black screen with audio. The developer noted on Steam you need to install these packages: "libswscale-ffmpeg3 libavcodec-ffmpeg56". The problem is that these packages don't seem to exist in newer versions of Ubuntu. I've never had to install extra packages just to get in-game videos to appear either, so hopefully they work on a better solution.

It's an incredibly accessible shooter, since it requires only simple movement controls using a twin-stick system. This means not only can we adults enjoy it, but it's probably quite good for a younger audience too. One stick moves with no throttle needed and the other stick will shoot, you also get various power-ups too like a speed boost on the left trigger. It was also absolutely flawless with the Steam Controller so this allowed my to dive right in and just enjoy the manic driving right away.

It's one of those easy to play, but certainly hard to master games. While the controls are simple, you also have to manage the pressure in your steambuggy. Pressure is used to fire and drive quickly, the more you fire the quicker it goes down. However, destroying enemies allows you to recover some pressure. If you manage to kill many enemies in a row, not only will you keep gaining pressure to continue firing quickly, your score multiplier will keep going up too. A clever idea and it works really well!

In between levels you get to go to the garage, where you can unlock various upgrades to the buggy. The customization options are awesome! Multiple different weapons, different buggy hulls, rams to really be a nuisance and so on. Each item can be upgraded a few times to be more powerful too, so there's truly tons to spend your cash on.

It also has drop-in co-op, so a friend can tag along any time which is pretty great.

Once they get the video issue hammered out, I will happily recommend it, but until that's sorted I cannot. However, if you can ignore the broken videos for now, it's still a lot of fun. A simple and well crafted experience, pleasing visuals and damn fun gameplay. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Well, vive la (oddly commercialized) revolution!!!
It looks like fun and I love the French guy urging you to rise up, overthrow evil (and buy his upgrades).
Only on my wishlist until I can just install it and go, though.

I bought (or received, I don't remember) Pressure some time ago (2014~2015), weeks before my "full-migration" to Linux, so I played it a little.

The funny part is that Pressure isn't on store anymore, but at least I received a 80% coupon to Pressure Overdrive.

Fair enough.
