It’s been an incredible 8 years and I’m shocked at how far we have come as a gaming platform. From being excited near our beginning about tiny indie games like Osmos, to end up livestreaming AAA games on release day years later, what an absolutely crazy journey it has been for us all.

If you like what we do, consider throwing your wallets at the Patreon. Even a single dollar helps, as it all adds up in the end. I’m very appreciative of everyone past and present who has supported GamingOnLinux and my goal of furthering Linux gaming.

I said in my end of year review for 2016 that it was “going to be another truly massive year for us”. Even in June, I think we can safely say it’s been pretty amazing so far!

Feral Interactive have certainly been busy: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III with OpenGL & Vulkan released, Total War: Shogun 2 & Fall of the Samurai released, Mad Max met Vulkan, HITMAN released and DiRT Rally also released. They are also currently teasing another Linux port.

Honourable mentions to some other awesome games that support Linux: Serious Sam Fusion with Vulkan, Owlboy, Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition, Day of Infamy, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Civilization VI and the list just doesn’t stop. Obviously I could name many more, but it would be a rather long article.

Mesa drivers have continued to improve at an crazy pace, with performance constantly being worked on. I'm always impressed at how they've changed in the space of a year. Seeing people actually recommend an AMD GPU now is a nice change. Considering how long I've been around, I remember the days of seeing people constantly warned about bad AMD GPU drivers, nice to see the turnaround for sure.

Imagine what another few months could give us, there’s rather a lot of 2017 still left. There’s going to be a few good surprises I imagine!

Here’s to another 8 fantastic years, cheers!

Happy birthday! Seeing what have been achieved in the last 8 years, i start dreaming about the 8 next. Maybe at that point there will be more games supporting Linux than games that don't :)
