You asked, some of you repeatedly and so I listened. GOL now officially runs a server for Rust [Steam] and you're all welcome to join in.
You can find it as "gamingonlinux.com" in the community tab, or direct IP: 163.172.17.175:30616. I also sorted out one of those nifty banners for it:
Note: The first Thursday of every month the server gets reset, this is not controlled by us. It's current a feature of the game.
While Garry from Facepunch has said some silly things in the past about Linux, the game actually runs really quite nicely. You shouldn't take what he says too seriously either, as he loves a good troll. You do currently seem to need to put it into Windowed mode or it won't register any input.
It's quite likely we will use this server in future livestreams and play with the community sessions, which could be quite fun with a good bit of PVP.
We also run other game servers, you can see them all on this page.
Enjoy!

Rust updated today and I can no longer connect to the GOL server. It returns the error 'Wrong Connection Protocol - server update required'

Rust updated today and I can no longer connect to the GOL server. It returns the error 'Wrong Connection Protocol - server update required'Yeah, I had to wait as there were 5 people on, but it got down to 1 and I couldn't hold it off forever. It's now up to date again.
I would advise all to keep an eye on Rust updates, to promptly come off if there is one so I can update :)

Also a comment about "Vulkan on all platforms" above it.

Is it possible for you to to send admin-warnings like: "server is going for a reboot in 10 minutes" from non-interactive terminal? If yes, and if server can be updated from a script, you could have a script that warn online players at 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute, 30 seconds, now, and then auto update for you. If you only run it manually and you check if it succeeded afterwards then the script doesn't have to be perfect.Rust updated today and I can no longer connect to the GOL server. The applications usually used to do server admin stuff are almost always entirely on Windows. I have yet to find one that has such features on Linux :(Is it possible for you to to send admin-warnings like: "server is going for a reboot in 10 minutes" from non-interactive terminal? Liam, I believe you have options for this on Linux too with webrcon? That should open up the posibility to properly control it through multiple tools (web, linux, windows, android..). http://facepunch.github.io/webrcon/#/home
Doesn't this solve the issue of doing server admin stuff?
EDIT: Seems like the say command that is available through webrcon should work fine, and I see multiple good web interfaces and android clients for this :)

If you're running a Rust server you need to add "+rcon.web 1" to the command line to enable web based Rcon. If you don't define a port it will use the default port, but you will also need to set a password, which you can do with "+rcon.password password".

Will bookmark that, thanks!

I don't think I will be playing any more. I had a hidden 2x1 base for storing half my valuables, but it despawned from decay because I didn't visit it for a while. It is not fun enough to login every day, and decay is bad if you don't.

The decay is a bit quick, if you can find me a config option to change I am happy to extend the decay time a good bit.
Are you sure you werent just raided though?

I assume raiders would just destroy the door, and not bother with the foundations. The whole building was gone.

Yeah, it definitely is possible, but the grind for getting c4 is hard enough that I think people try to take the cheapest route, and sheet metal doors need less C4 than sheet metal foundations.I assume raiders would just destroy the door, and not bother with the foundations. The whole building was gone.
Depends, if you have enough c4 you can foundation wipe

The decay is a bit quick, if you can find me a config option to change I am happy to extend the decay time a good bit.
I found a couple of things, so let's kick off with the pure "vanilla" server options I found:
decay.decaytickrate- This one seems to be for Legacy rust server and no longer in use- decay.tick - This is the tick rate like the above one for current version, I think (not tested myself).
- decay.scale - This seems to be the recommended option to adjust. with 1 being 100% and 0.25 being 25% speed. So maybe setting that to 0.50 to half the speed of decay?
- http://oxidemod.org/plugins/nodecay.1160/ - Can adjust decay speed
Summary:
Do
decay.scale 0.50
(or whatever you want) in rcon console and do server.writecfg
so you save the config. Also a little tip for you, Liam! Seems like global.restart would be perfect for you:
global.restart - Restart the server - with x seconds warning. If no seconds given, server restarts after 5 minutes. (300 seconds)
Note: I've just been googling and cannot guarantee any correct answers :P
EDIT1: Changed some things
EDIT2: Added decay.scale as the recommended.
EDIT3: Here is a handy list over current server commands and options! https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Rust_Dedicated_Server#Server_Commands
EDIT4: Hopefully last edit, added this: global.restart

Yeah decay for solo players sucks hard man!Yeah, been a lot of life on the server recently which is awesome!
But happy to see some many people playing at the moment. The PVP has been crazy fun the last couple of days!
However, the server is dead at the moment. It completely froze up rather late yesterday and haven't been able to connect since :(

I have a weird behavior regarding the anisotropic setting on my system and I'm curious if you guys see this too.
So, basically I have the anisotropic filter set to 8, but every time I start the game it reverts back to 1 (visually speaking), while the cursor still shows 8.
In order to have the anisotropic filter actually working at 8, I have to move the cursor somewhere (lower or higher, doesn't matter) and put it back again at 8. Then it works and the image is properly filtered as it should at 8, but this is true only for the current gaming session.
Next gaming session, again, the settings shows 8 while looks like 1 and so on and on.
Easy to test on patterns of a wall for example as they distance away from you.

Checked out this server a couple of times as "Papa Bear". I'll probably play on next wipe. Can't wait to fight and raid you all. Also got to meet both Nox's, sort of. 10/10 server

needs to be wiped more frequently to get more players on it. Waiting for face punch to do it will take a month.
