The Long Dark [Official Site] is a beautiful game and it's due for a full release tomorrow, come check out their launch trailer. The release will also finally feature the first two episodes of the story, in addition to the already highly polished sandbox mode.
I'm really looking forward to giving it a go, as I've loved the sandbox experience, but I'm usually much more of a story-based game player. The trailer certainly makes it sound good, gave me tingles watching it.
If you've been holding out on it, will you pick it up at release?

That's nice, they named it after me :)
I'm really looking forward to this.

I will believe it when I see it. We had a launch trailer already for the story mode back in 2015: http://hinterlandgames.com/the-long-dark-story-mode-teaser/

No reason to doubt an announcement made a few days before the release. The linked video is a teaser, not a launch trailer, so not the same thing.

Story hype!
They will leave EA and release "chapter one" in the story along with it.
They game is far from done so in a sence they are probably still in EA.
But the core mechanics for the game are there.

Who knows? They promised a released of Story Mode in early 2014, then it was shifted to end of 2015, then it was shifted to spring of 2016. In spring 2016, they finally were fed up with people asking them for a release date and why once again there was a promise but no release, and they shifted to "when it is 100% done, we won't tell you release dates anymore".
I bought the game for the story mode, yet they failed to release over and over again.
So, yes, I have a perfectly fine reason to say "I will believe it when I see it". I wouldn't even be waiting for this, if Steams refund policy wasn't "oh, you are waiting more than 14 days for the promised story mode, sorry, we won't refund a game you own for such a long time".

Quoting: TobiSGDThere's a lesson to be learned here, I'd say. Don't buy something that isn't out.Quoting: liamdaweQuoting: TobiSGDI will believe it when I see it. Good, without story mode it was somewhat lacking.

I'd be interested with full story mode, but it only has parts of the story at the moment, it seems...

finally (hopefully).. at least parts of the storymode..
stoppped playing after i walked through a door which couldn't be opened from the other side and lost a well developed/equipped shelter with lots of resources, as there was no direct / short route back "home"... and just playing the sandbox get's a little bit boring after a while.. but having a context and a goal - besides just surviving - will make it more interesting.. i guess i have something planned for the next days..
but releasing the story in chunks is not very nice, especially considering the time it was in development / early access.. that already was a problem in dreamfall chapters (still a fantastic game though), returning to a game months later to a story you hardly remember details of can be difficult.. and regaining all the established experience in game mechanics you had can also a be a lengthy task the more complex the game is... so i generally dislike that kind release-strategy.. but when it comes to funding the development process, it seems kind of necessary.. but isn't that what early access is actually about?
