Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire [Official Site] is the new RPG from Obsidian that will release sometime next year. This new video shows off some of the early work, including cats and sick pirates.

The game was funded on Fig, where Obsidian gathered $4.4 Million in backing. $2.25M was from Fig itself, while $2.15M was pledged directly from players.

I must admit it does look quite good! They seem to be working on a lot of the little things in this one, like more idle animations, people throwing up if they drink too much and a cat kept alive by unnatural sciences — oh my!

Will you pick up a copy at release, or did you back it on Fig? Their commitment to a Linux version again has me happy. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Already "preordered" through fig, for the collectors edition. Though the original had it's problems on Linux, they got most of them fixed. They never fixed the cloaks though. However they're using the same version of the engine as was used on Tyranny. And all the issues were fixed there.

Sounds great. Will be an insta buy for me.

I backed it on fig so looking forward to it. Usually I don't follow the diaries so I can get surprised when playing but the little I see or read seems to have me interested and with an awe of hypeness. Hopefully the game does the same once it's released.

Looks really good, I have been very excited for it, this just raises it up a notch for me. I will likely preorder as I did with tyranny. Hopefully the story and characters are good.

The world needs more pirate games. I still need to finish the first game though; they really meant the "Eternity" in Pillars of Eternity.

I finished the main story line, but not all sub quest and still havent made it through the white march.

The main story and many of the side quests are really top notch. Unfortunately many other side quests are pretty uninspired, and it's sometimes hard to tell right off which ones are worth doing. I really hope they improve the combat for the second game. I love that POE has those "resolve" dialog options that let you roleplay the fact that you kill hundreds of people, but that actual combat is tedious IMO, and Tyranny's was a step in the wrong direction for me.

Hmm. Maybe I should get to playing the first one .

Does anyone knows if RPG system was modified from PoE?

As a backer, I'm eagerly waiting for the release :)
