The developers behind ARK: Survival Evolved [Steam] have decided to delay the official release until the end of August.
They claim they will use this extra time to put the PC and multiplayer versions of the game at a higher priority, now the console versions are ready to ship. They will further development of the new Ragnarok map and put more focus into the PC version performance. They claim they have optimizations done on console they can port over to the PC version and fixing some gameplay issues.
We've decided, for now, to continue hosting our ARK server. I will be waiting to see how the release goes and if they do improve the Linux version or not. If the situation doesn't improve ~2 months after release, we may look to stop it. It only has 2-3 people regularly playing on it, so it's quite an expense just for that. For now though, it's staying put. Our Rust server on the other hand, has people constantly on it!
Studio WildcardLet's address the mammoth in the room. Official Release. As of today, ARK has completed its Gold Master and certification for retail release. This process took a little longer than expected and as a result, our release date has been pushed back to August the 29th. We're deeply apologetic for those who were negatively affected by the delay; it sucks, it wasn't what we had wanted, nor planned but where we currently stand. We wanted to address this sooner but did not want to make any statements until we were completely sure of what was going to happen.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
I dislike the devs of Ark and Rust. Both seem like assholes that do not consider Linux users even worth their time.

Quoting: TrumpI dislike the devs of Ark and Rust. Both seem like assholes that do not consider Linux users even worth their time.I agree when it comes to Ark. However, the Rust devs seems like assholes in general. They do however seem to fix linux specific issue rather quickly :) The devs recently said that the game was halfway done, so I understand them being frustrated at all the people yelling at them.

They may put us on the back burner, but they do update and improve the Linux builds at regular intervals.

Well, I know where you're coming from, but of course, if they truly didn't consider Linux users worth their time, they wouldn't still be offering a Linux version, would they?
You only have to look at the Leaving Lindow developer to realise that we're lucky to have games like Ark and Rust at all!
This situation boils down to the harsh reality of trying to make money - their priority will always be their largest customer base. But yeah, I'd like a bit of consideration as a paying customer. Right now, it can feel pretty unfair at times.

Well, considering how bad (in my experience) the Ark Linux port is compared to the Windows version I don't really think you should consider it "lucky".
"Feeling unfair" isn't really the right either. It's fair that we don't get as many games. It's fair that some ports lag behind on updates. It's not fair if the game is runs and looks like absolute trash. Selling something that different (both visually and performance) shouldn't even be legal. Now, the Ark developers aren't really well liked on the Windows side either to what I've seen. Some devs are bad devs, that's just how the world is :)

Hey Liam, i was one of the regulars on the Ark GoL server- I've stopped playing really due to the direction Studio Wildcard has been headed, and the complete lack of attention the Linux platform has gotten, so I just wanted to let you all know, if that impacts your decision about hosting the server.

Quoting: liamdaweI have started on a script that parses this, e.g. every 30 minutes and generate statistics for you although I am not sure how much I should include. For now I am appending the usernames of online players each time the script is run, but I am thinking about a last seen per username, and a counter instead. If you have any wishlist, then feel free to say what you want to have.Quoting: KetilAh, so a few more than I thought, that's good to know. I would join the server if I could stop the game constantly crashing when it tries to connect.
