For those of you enjoying Cossacks 3 [Steam, Official Site] you might be pleased to know another DLC is on the way! Cossacks 3: The Golden Age is planning to release on August 24th.

It will feature:

  • Single-player scenarios – four new single-player missions: Siege of Dunkirk, War over Brazil, Caribbean War and Portuguese Restoration War.
  • Switzerland and Piedmont: new strong and beautiful nations are ready to battle in single and multiplayer game modes both, as players fiercely fight for the top places in ranked.
  • New unique units: 5 new units will increase amount of your game's strategies even further. Switzerland would have 17th century Pikeman, Jaegar and Mounted Jaeger (unique hussar). Padre and 18th century Dragoon would join Piedmonte.

If you own the Digital Deluxe Edition, you will automatically get it as part of it. Sounds like a pretty decently sized DLC with a wide range of new content, good stuff!

I also reached out to them again about getting the Linux version of Cossacks 3 on GOG, here's what they said:
QuoteLinux version is still in Beta stage on Steam. As soon as we finalize it, we will release it on GOG. It may take some time. Can't give exact or approximate terms.

Have you sent in a bug report to them?

I'm not @omer666, but I have the same problem on arch linux. The game just segfaults on launch (doesn't matter whether I run steam with the runtime enabled or disabled). After asking about it the Steam Forum, they told me to send an email. Which I did, but they only ran me through some basic troubleshooting and then that was it. I didn't have the impression that they actually looked into the segfault. Plus I'm pretty sure they would have had to add me to some sort of debug beta to get usable info about the crash, given that the debugging info available from the segfault message and the console output is basically non-existent.

I have bought this when it came out on Linux. Haven't been able to play it ever since. It seems they are not supporting mesa yet.

So sad it does not work with mesa :-(.

As I've posted on a previous article, the game runs fine for me here on Arch (the Steam runtime is required for audio). Make sure to check the Arch wiki for known steam runtime issues that could be effecting you.

@N30N: Are you using an open-source driver though? So far I've not heard from a single person that it works with mesa in their setup. It seems to only function with the proprietary nvidia or amd drivers (and I think with newer amd cards even that won't work because the new driver also uses mesa, but I might be wrong about that).

I've looked into the steam runtime stuff again, but nothing like the issue I'm having is described there. I get the game logo, then a popup that tells me the game segfaulted. Console says

TApplication.HandleException Access violation
Stack trace:
$CA8A1E59

Nothing about libGL, and no other game I've been playing recently has trouble running in the steam runtime.

No & I'm sorry say I've not the hardware at hand to test.
