The Unreal Engine space shooter EVERSPACE [Steam] is finally nearing a Linux release, they've managed to overcome some problems and "soon" it will be released under the radar.

They've had driver problems, issues with Unreal Engine itself and so on, yet they've continued powering on. Just take a look at the good news:

Thanks a lot for all your kind words and your understanding!

And for a change I do have good news for you: We still have problems on AMD cards, but on NVIDIA the game is up and running again and amazingly enough it seems that on NVIDIA all graphical issues have been fixed! We playtested a bit earlier today and there were a few issues with the controls and controls customization and we could not switch languages (which should be an easy fix) but other than that it all looked very promising.

So the plan is to first release the build "under the radar" to players who already backed or bought the game. (Without Linux support showing up on steam). I can't give you an exact date, but I think it's going to happen soon. Yay!

I have to say I'm really impressed with these developers. They've communicated exceptionally well and kept at it when a lot of developers would have likely given up.

I think they really deserve our support.

Quoting: TheRiddick"issues with Unreal Engine", say no more, say no more friend.

Unreal Engine will probably work for %50 of the way to getting a port on Linux working, the other 50% of the work will be up to the developer, which is allot to ask. The opensource amdgpu kernel driver should be more compatible these days then the pro driver, but we will see.

i develop a game in my free time, as i have empathy with linux i've put a lot of time making a linux build, but the "click to package" button doesn't work with a click, you need to install a cross-compiler then download the engine source code and compile, the documentation about it is very poor, you can also package through linux but it didn't worked the way i expected when i tried to, plus packaging to linux takes something around 6 hours while to windows takes 30 min, to tell the truth, if the engine "bug's" at porting the game then i have no idea of where to start removing the bugs, to this point my linux builds works but i have some problems maybe related to MESA, not sure, i have a r9 270 the game doesn't work on Antergos or in Ubuntu that i have in my pc, the screen just goes black and then the computer turn off (what is a serious bug), but it works if i try to run it from the live boot of my antergos pen drive.

i'm pretty happy to see how EVERSPACE's developers spent their time into making a good linux port, i will take a look at the game.

I contacted the developers on Kickstarter about Mesa situation, not sure if they'll reply.

Looks like they are testing with Mesa after all (or will be testing?). See here.

I'm still kind of surprised that if they had issues with it, why didn't they file any bugs?

Sweet! I won't need to switch to my Win10 machine to play this game without needing to tweak a million things :D

AFAIK it should be but I haven't heard anything definite.
