Feral Interactive are up to their usual teasing once again. They've announced F1 2017 is coming to Mac, but they're also directly requesting to see demand for it on Linux.
See their Tweet:
Should Linux re-join our FORMULA ONE team with F1 2017? It won’t be this month if they do, but show us there's demand! #THEREQUESTINATOR pic.twitter.com/MLuN2IJAyv

I believe this is the first time they've ever asked the Linux community about demand for a specific game. The interesting thing really is their wording "It won’t be this month if they do" meaning there's a real chance.
Considering they previously ported F1 2015 to Linux and said F1 2016 won't be ported as sales of F1 2015 weren't strong enough, maybe they're going to test the waters once again? I imagine if F1 2017 is actually reviewed better, it would sell better.
I get that some companies are reluctant to let Feral port their games, even if Feral would bear most of the business risk, but as some others said, if you want to make a splash, port Rise of the Tomb Raider, or any Bethesda title or really ANY MMO.
Quoting: m0nt3they just put a requestinator for games we would like and now its like , hey lets port another game we have ported in the past. I get it is probably easier and less time conusming, but I feel we really need something new from th triple A ports. Is West Northwood still missing from the feral radar?
they said this to me on facebook:
"Hi! The Feral Radar is broken – again – and we're trying to fix it. It keeps running away and hiding though, which makes the job more difficult"

Quoting: KimyrielleThe F1 bores the hell out of me in real life (ugly cars driving in a circle for hours, and the winner gets decided by what driver's team can change the tires 2 seconds faster than anyone else - gimme a break!), so this game isn't exactly on top of my wish list.

People are different. Some watch Soccer where 20 man chase the ball to get 1 or 2 scores by the end of 90 minute of running.. utterly boring imo. Some love League of Legends or Dota 2 tournaments, Some love WRC Rally and watching just as times coming in...
I love F1 racing. It is boring sometimes with no overtaking but if you know the drivers, teams and strategies behind it its really nice imo.
I do love WRC more though :)

(Next to Rise of the Tomb Raider... hint hint ;))
PS: Best F1 simulation regarding handling/realism is still Ferrari Virtual Academy imho, from the makers of Assetto Corsa.

Personally I'd rather they port something else.
I'm sure there's a lot of people interested in these games and I mean no disrespect to them or feral, plus it's probably easier for them to port a similar game with same engine and similar middleware from a publisher they've already contracted before, but what's the point of officially asking for port suggestions if they never consider any of them?
I've bought countless games which were of no interest to me just so as to support linux gaming and help game porters do more for our niche community, but the times where I'd spend money on stuff that's irrelevant to me are long gone.
After Total War games, F1 games ...
