Feral Interactive are up to their usual teasing once again. They've announced F1 2017 is coming to Mac, but they're also directly requesting to see demand for it on Linux.

See their Tweet:

Should Linux re-join our FORMULA ONE team with F1 2017? It won’t be this month if they do, but show us there's demand! #THEREQUESTINATOR pic.twitter.com/MLuN2IJAyv

I believe this is the first time they've ever asked the Linux community about demand for a specific game. The interesting thing really is their wording "It won’t be this month if they do" meaning there's a real chance.

Considering they previously ported F1 2015 to Linux and said F1 2016 won't be ported as sales of F1 2015 weren't strong enough, maybe they're going to test the waters once again? I imagine if F1 2017 is actually reviewed better, it would sell better.

The F1 bores the hell out of me in real life (ugly cars driving in a circle for hours, and the winner gets decided by what driver's team can change the tires 2 seconds faster than anyone else - gimme a break!), so this game isn't exactly on top of my wish list.

I get that some companies are reluctant to let Feral port their games, even if Feral would bear most of the business risk, but as some others said, if you want to make a splash, port Rise of the Tomb Raider, or any Bethesda title or really ANY MMO.

they just put a requestinator for games we would like and now its like , hey lets port another game we have ported in the past. I get it is probably easier and less time conusming, but I feel we really need something new from th triple A ports. Is West Northwood still missing from the feral radar?

they said this to me on facebook:
"Hi! The Feral Radar is broken – again – and we're trying to fix it. It keeps running away and hiding though, which makes the job more difficult"

I am always interested in racing games no matter how many wheels or terrain. I would buy if eventually comes to Linux since 2015 as Steam reviews say isn't the best of the series because of its few game modes and other problems, in the other hand 2017 looks to have the best career mode until the moment and will have classic cars as 2013, the most complete of the series so far.

People are different. Some watch Soccer where 20 man chase the ball to get 1 or 2 scores by the end of 90 minute of running.. utterly boring imo. Some love League of Legends or Dota 2 tournaments, Some love WRC Rally and watching just as times coming in...

I love F1 racing. It is boring sometimes with no overtaking but if you know the drivers, teams and strategies behind it its really nice imo.

I do love WRC more though :)

Not interested in racers personally. I like RPG's,RTS's even the newly named "immersive sim" genre. But not sports games.

It's not my favorite Assetto Corsa, but would definitively buy this one!
(Next to Rise of the Tomb Raider... hint hint ;))

PS: Best F1 simulation regarding handling/realism is still Ferrari Virtual Academy imho, from the makers of Assetto Corsa.

I'd hate to be the one at Feral having to make this decision. Over on Twitter, the responses to this question are mostly very positive, whereas here they are not.

Personally I'd rather they port something else.

Great, another TW/Racing game from Feral. Nobody would have seen that one coming.

I'm sure there's a lot of people interested in these games and I mean no disrespect to them or feral, plus it's probably easier for them to port a similar game with same engine and similar middleware from a publisher they've already contracted before, but what's the point of officially asking for port suggestions if they never consider any of them?

I've bought countless games which were of no interest to me just so as to support linux gaming and help game porters do more for our niche community, but the times where I'd spend money on stuff that's irrelevant to me are long gone.

I feel pity for you if this is the only response you can come up with ...

I'm very likely to buy it if it has a co-op career with friends online.

I was a little put off with poor reviews on the one that was ported to Linux before.
M@GOid Aug 18, 2017
I do not Tweet or other crap social crap, but I post here. So if Feral is listening, I will buy it full price.

Enough strategy crap, give us some action.
1xok Aug 18, 2017
I've played F1 2015 for 19.4h. Had bought it for 20 euros. For this price I would also buy the new version again. Maybe also for 30 euros. I'm not a big fan of racing games so far. But perhaps this would change. :)

EDIT: I don't understand how I can participate on this. Do I need a twitter account? Is there something on steam?

i have never played racing game even in windows. i dont care about racing games.
Doom 2016
witcher 3 or so will be better choice to port to linux.
ewskau Aug 18, 2017
Like many others, I also would prefer some other genres before another racing simulator.

But if it comes out for linux and the reviews are good, then I would most likely purchase it during a sale.

So count me as a +0.25.
vickop Aug 18, 2017
Yes yes yes please. F1 2016 is my favorite game.

The port of 2015 was very bad (I bought it). It has very poor performance with my rx480 compared to windows performance. A port with vulkan would be my favorite linux game.

Please port it. I'm gonna buy it when it is released.
Tuxee Aug 18, 2017
I'm interested. I already found F1 2015 quite entertaining and if F1 2017 improves on that I'm definitely tempted to throw some money at Feral.
peta77 Aug 18, 2017
i like racing, but I didn't enjoy F1 2015... and I don't think the new version will atract me more... I really love Dirt Rally and the quality of the port.... Grid Autosports feels a little bit weird on the wheel but still would prefer it over F1 201x....
Assetto Corsa as a port would be fantastic... but I'd be only bying DLCs then as I already own it... don't know if some of the money then would get to Feral... but I'd be comfortable with a Linux-Engine-DLC and would be paying for it... maybe that's something to be evaluated (yes, it's not common at the moment, but why not give it a try? maybe (hopefully) the response is much better than those guys comments who want everything for free)....
