OBS Studio [Official Site], the best way to livestream on Linux has a fresh release out and it's a bit of a big one.

Highlights
  • They've updated the UI to be modular, meaning you can customize what elements of the UI you actually want.
  • Allow using a video file as a transition
  • A new "AUTO" option for Twitch servers, which allows it to pick the best one for you
  • When using the auto-configuration dialog with Twitch, it will now automatically test the 3 servers with the best route
  • Added support for Mixer's FTL protocol which allows low-latency streaming on Mixer.
  • Added the ability to use certain Japanese and European-specific keys as hotkeys
  • Audio meters will now temporarily change their color to red when audio is clipping (too loud)
  • Plenty more

You can install it on Ubuntu using this PPA, which is currently up to date with this new release.

The new auto server picker for Twitch certainly will come in handy, as I often have problems with specific servers. Having it choose for me based on what server has better routing will come in handy.

After this release I'd consider streaming. If I had time, I mean. And was more handsome. And funny. Or had one viewer other than my mum.

I really want to see AMD VCE getting mainlined. There's a working fix that would need to be included. Since it's a hack the devs seem not want to add it. It only works with AMDGPU + Mesa.

Shame my upload speed doesn't support streaming. I just tried to stream HoN and while my ryzen didn't flinch at the encoding, my ping went from 50 to 400...
