Planar Conquest [Official Site, Steam], a 4X turn-based strategy game inspired by Master of Magic recently pushed out a new patch that includes Linux support.
Yesterday, they announced a patch with this:
It currently has no SteamOS icon, which I imagine will be put up once they've fixed any lingering issues in the Linux build.
About the game
I don't have any contacts at Wastelands Interactive for a review code, so we likely won't have any reviews up on it. Going by user and critic reviews across the net, it's a pretty mixed bag overall.

QuoteYes, Linux is here.
It might not be compatible with all the distributions, but definitely it works.
Let us know the feedback about that.

About the game
QuotePlanar Conquest is a 4X turn-based strategy game inspired by Master of Magic. Created to give you that awesome feeling of the gameplay of the past, wrapped into modern look. “eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate” are the four words which are here to provide fun and challenge.
Customize your character and become all powerful Sorcerer Lord to rule the empire or choose a pre-generated character. Select from 13 spell circles that will determine which of the over 300 spells your lord can learn. Choose from over 40 disciplines that give your lord specific advantages or disadvantages, and will allow you to adjust your character to your gameplay style. Magic, military, diplomacy and economy can be harnessed to serve you.

Amazing, I was starting to think this would never show up for linux. "Worlds of Magic" was the original game that seemed like a somewhat promising MoM-clone but it had such an amazing number of technical issues that playing it quickly became tiresome.
Planar Conquest is supposed to be something like a fixed & enhanced version of that game, so I have long been curious how that would work out.
Keeping my fingers crossed...

I've played it a while ago via WINE, as it was free for buying Worlds of Magic (Linux).
It was very average, with several GUI flaws and overall poor arts and not very deep gameplay.
I've then refunded both WoM so i've lost Planar too. I may try it again later, when it will, again, be sold less than 5€ (it happens quite often).

I backed Worlds of Magic back then, and signed up for a DRM free copy. They handed out Steam "beta" keys eventually and told us the DRM free versions would come "later". The Steam keys became the full game one day. I am still waiting for my DRM free copy. I sent them multiple mails, even telling them I'd accept a Steam key if I'd get ANYTHING. They never responded.
I consider them frauds, really. I am fairly convinced I won't buy anything from them again, ever.

I bought Worlds of Magic and have Planar Conquest in my steam library as well. There were a lot of major game crashing bugs in the original release. The release was a Master of Magic clone that not only cloned the original MOM's numerous release bugs, but far exceeded them as well.
I think Planar Conquest was an attempt by the Devs to bring a similar title to phones/tablets (iirc) When it was more stable than Worlds of Magic they stopped trying to fix WoM and ported PQ back to Windows which left linux users without anything stable to play for over a year until today's release.
I was thinking for a while that it would never come to linux due to the length of time we have been waiting with no word from the devs. I have to try it, but I am afraid of potential bugs. The dev team's track record has me worried and Tchey's comments about GUI flaws doesn't make it sound promising.

I don't know why but I had this game already in my library, must have been part of a bundle at one time or another. I guess I'll test it out to see how well it works.

Wort to add:
- If u own Worlds of Magic you get for free Planar Conquest.
- Planar is available also for XBONE, PS4, iOS and Android.
- Both WoM and PC is drm-free on Steam. So you can launch it without Steam. (just download, even with steamcl and move to flash usb and run on other computer)
I think because u have Worlds of Magic on your Steam Library. Planar is free for all owners WoM.

It has nothing to do with a good or bad game.
