Without continued support from our amazing readers, we wouldn’t be able to continue doing what we do!

Please consider supporting me on Patreon, so that I can continue speaking to developers every day, posting news, reviews, editorials, making videos, previewing new games before they’re released and so on.

Sadly, this month we've had the most cancellations in a single month since we started. Not a large amount in comparison to our total though, thankfully. I'm hoping that trend doesn't continue, but of course everyone's situation changes so there's never any hard feelings! Thank you to all of you past, present and future supporters!

If you’re curious about how we’re doing as a site, I built this page for you to see what we’ve been up to recently.

I have plenty of plans for the website to keep improving it and plenty of articles in progress. I’m hopeful to continue on for many years to come!

Also, if you didn’t see from the recent Site Update post, we now have a daily article mailing list. If you sign up, you will get an email once a day with what we’ve posted! I’ve just adjusted that so it will ask for confirmation when you hit the unsubscribe link, since we don’t want accidental unsubscribes.

If you can’t do Patreon, we also have Paypal.

Thank you!

Ps. If you have feature ideas you think would really help, let me know any time. Email inbox is always open! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

This looks quite good. Or not?
Well, it's much higher than:
https://graphtreon.com/creator/LLB
which I would expected to be so much higher than Liam. But all in all, it doesn't sound like liam has a fulltime income from patreon, even though he seems like doing nothing else.
Liam does have a very positive outcome it seems, unless more people posted icculus' tweet.
https://graphtreon.com/creator/icculus
And this is a bit sad:
https://graphtreon.com/creator/Fortresscraft
The guy had a motor accident and is recovering.

But thats a nice graphtreon...

Quoting: GrazenTo be honest Liam, posts like this make me want to cancel my Patreon support.
Wow, okay, why? Did I do something wrong?
These occasional reminders are just fine, don't worry about it. Well okay, of course you'd worry as it's your livelihood we're talking about.

If I can make one suggestion though, I'd keep the doom-and-gloom in check. Positive messages work better I think than emphasis on the negative like cancellations. They're on your mind, but they're not what motivates us to support your work. Remind us of the awesome things you do and plan on doing in the near future. That should be enough.

EDIT: typo

Agreed. There's a fine line between 'please support the channel and the work I'm doing' and begging. Your posts sometimes come across as begging and/or the comments about starving or your family or whatever are off mark. We support you for the value that you provide - I don't frankly care about your personal life or personal welfare. I know that sounds harsh, but there's more than enough people here locally for me to care about that I actually know IRL.

If you can't make a living doing this, do something else. I don't want to be shamed into supporting you.

Whoa hold on a minute, who said anything about starving or family? Neither have been mentioned at all, you're the only one being like this. Please don't make things up, it's quite annoying.

Since when have I shamed anyone into supporting me? Any time it's mentioned I thank people. In fact, in this very article I specifically said:
Quoting: methere's never any hard feelings!
I am literally at a loss as to what your issue is here.

The fact is, these posts that I do once every few months (the last was June, before that was April!) increase our support more than any other method. I will continue to do them once every couple months.

If one article every few months bothers you that much, please do feel free to cancel. Anyone can cancel at any time and restart at any time.

Thanks everyone.

I counted well over a 100 normal articles (aka non-Patreon related and I discounted livestream announcements) between this Patreon article and the previous one and unless I missed one somewhere I'd say the ratio is pretty good. If an article here and there is too much then I imagine a big banner on the front page would also be too much and if neither is present then nobody knows the Patreon exists and income growth grinds to a halt despite the website possibly growing in popularity.
rkfg Aug 23, 2017
Yeah, compare that to almost any more or less popular youtuber. Remember what you hear at the end of any of their videos: like, share, subscribe, if they have Patreon then it'll be mentioned as well in every single video. Compared to that these infrequent reminders are nothing but they help so please continue. Many people only occasionally read articles here and they might have a vague idea of supporting you after finding several hidden gems but they sometimes lack a little push. And here it is.

Are there any lists of open source patreons in general? Would be interested in seeing something like that.

Hi Liam,

Thank you for all the efforts you are putting in Gamingonlinux. Your work is refreshing for the Linux community, and I have been enjoying reading your articles daily*.

I have a few questions/suggestions for you if I may:
- I did not understand what team exactly is behind Gol - I have read support "me" and "we" - ? Maybe you could add a page to introduce yourselves more specifically - or does this page exist already - ?
- Would it be possible to add a shortlist of each user's 3 best games in his profile and signature? This way, each reader could engage more with another. Indeed I do not understand the focus on hardware, distro, but not games ?
- Would it be possible to create Steam Gol groups for particular games, and show the Steam links on a dedicated page ? As an example, Worms Reloaded multiplayer only works with other Linux users, so a group of Gol active players would definitely interest me. Same with Company of Heroes 2 or Dawn of War 2 which both have the same issue. Same for Ibb and Obb which I did not finish yet!
- Also, do you plan to release tutorials ? I would love to know more about setting up my wine layer for some games - so that I can finally run Homeworld Remastered!-, know more about Linux, or else.
- I would not mind if you put a few ads on your website or direct buy links when Linux games are on sale.

Cheers

*I must confess I am not a backer yet though - who said student debt? -!

You have my support, you do good work mate. I have read articles here for the last 2 years or so and wouldn't have known about many of the things I learned here. I love donating to the Linux community. It's what makes it carry on.

Thank you for the kind words!

That about us page is available here. :)

We don't really want to have long signatures at the bottom of everyone's post, but enabling people to add such things to their profile may be possible. I'm actually planning to roll out a better profile system once some more essential code has been sorted behind the scenes for a few things.

We do have a Steam Group :)

I don't really use Wine myself and don't really plan to make Wine tutorials a regular feature. There's so many native games we prefer to keep to reporting on them mainly.

Adverts really do pay very little, as I mentioned in a previous comment we tried them for a while before and around 80% (i think) blocked them.

There's always the Guides and HOWTOs section of the GOL wiki. Seems like a good place for all kinds of tutorials. With appropriate subsections of course.
