Surprise, F1 2017 for Linux appears on SteamDB

By -

Suprised? No? Okay. After Feral Interactive [Official Site] directly asked to see a demand for F1 2017 and then the official F1 2017 twitter account had a little leak, F1 2017 for Linux has turned up on SteamDB.

Now this has popped up on SteamDB (it's a long one, but here's a glimpse):

600621/name: Linux - F1 2017 Binary

There's a lot more to indicate it, so it may very well end up coming to Linux. I bet there's going to be a number of happy faces in our comments if it does get officially announced.

The game has just released today with Windows/Mac support, with the Mac version done by Feral.

Will you buy a copy if it does come to Linux?

The reviews for the game are quite good, if it comes to linux it will be a great addition and I'll also buy it!

Codemasters create great games, I LOVE GRID 1 (it's my favorite race game ever), GRID 3 is ok, Dirt 2 was awesome, and I enjoyed F1 Race Stars. But I'm not a huge fan of their simulators (Dirt Rally was frustrating to me, and my cpu sucks in Open GL).

I want to support Feral, but I would be happier with Dirt 4...

But the real question is... will it run with Vulkan ;)
vickop Aug 25, 2017
Yeeeees. Vulkan please!

Hmm. As I said before, although I'm a huge fan of driving games and of F1, the combination of the two just never seems to grab me in the way you'd expect. Never say never, though. It does look good.

Must be an error. That has happened before right?

So they managed to port the game more or less overnight after asking if people wanted? Including securing permissions?

That or they decided to port that game LOOOOOOONG before asking in public.

What's more likely?

It is not my favourite genre but I am going to get it nonetheless.
habernir Aug 26, 2017
Yes i will buy it !!!!
vickop Aug 26, 2017
I'm going to buy it the same day they release the port
Joeyboots80 Aug 26, 2017
I have already bought it. In my imagination. ;)

I'm very pleased to see more an more big games being ported to Linux. Unfortunately I neither own a wheel nor an appropriate GPU.

OT: Is there a good casual-arcade racing game on Linux like NFSU or Distance?

very good question.
it actually makes the poll on peoples interest of a port look extremely ridiculous...

I'm still more into GT/Hill Climb and long tracks, lost interest in formula one a while ago.. so it's not very likely i'd buy it... but it's good to see high quality games being ported, that improves the attractivity of linux overall, though the response here for the port was mixed...

you might try "jet racing extreme".. it's a little bit different - not the usual type of racing - but very cool stuff anyway and lots of fun... can be a bit hard to master... though it's in early access currently it can already be played quite well and for the current price you get very much content with reasonable hardware requirements...

Feral, you will sell my copy, thanks!
TobiSGD Aug 26, 2017
Yes, waiting for that!

Linux port is not out yet, just appeared on SteamDB. Also, chances are it's not a difficult port since I'm certain it's not an entirely new engine between releases.

I don't think so.

First : Ego Engine is a familiar one for them from their previous ports.

Second and main reason : When they asked it , they were already close to finish port. The reason why they done a requestinator , simple.

They just want to ensure of sales coming from Linux gamers by simply making them giving promises with signing up to request pages.

West Norwood was F1 2017. It was once merged as MacOS and Linux icons. And then it seperated with MacOS version at a sooner radar zone while Linux version lagging behind.
Right now ; MacOS and Windows ver of F1 2017 is available while Linux version is only appeared on SteamDB.

Just like the radar pointed out.

And then ; West Norwood disappeared for both of them.

Linux version was planned all from the beginning , they just add a little bit drama in it.

no one said that was the game selected from the pool.
if you see their page they have an radar of future ports, but they dont disclose their names.
maybe that was one of the mysterious signs on the radar?
