ASTROKILL [Steam] is a game focused on combat without compromising realism and it looks graphically amazing. If you have a beefy computer, the developer is seeking testers.
Speaking on the Steam forum, the developer said:
What has captured my interest, is that the game is inspired by TIE Fighter and Freespace 2. Freespace 1&2 are what I consider two of the best space shooters ever, seriously I love them. So I'm pretty keen on giving this a go myself.
About the game
It's currently in Early Access, so it's not finished.

QuoteI just got the engine upgraded, which means I can finally do a Linux build. If there are any volunteers, I am willing to give out some keys to anyone with a hefty Linux machine.

About the game
QuoteFocused on combat without compromising realism, ASTROKILL is a modern space shooter drawing inspiration from old-school games like TIE Fighter and Freespace 2. Players pilot fighters, gunships, interceptors, and medics (in 1st or 3rd person) from warring factions in ballistic dogfights. Wage war flying for either the sprawling Dominion of Man or the rebellious Outer Belt Alliance!
In the world of ASTROKILL, kinetic weapons dominate the battlefield. Deliver destruction with machine guns, flak cannons, homing missiles and rail guns. You will wipe out entire squads and bring down frigates in glorious explosions. But, be wary of camping interceptors, homing space-mines, and ace-pilots. To succeed in this unforgiving zero-G battlefield, you must master your ship and its weapons. You will blow away spaceships with machine guns, flak cannons, homing missiles, and rail guns.
It's currently in Early Access, so it's not finished.

Wow, this and Helium Rain in the same year? Finally, some space games on Linux! Pulling for Everspace as well.
Looking at this video, I see a lot of Babylon 5 style influence here, which can only be a good thing...

So, I was checking out some actual gameplay videos of this, and while who knows how it will hold together as a game, the artistic direction is outstanding. It absolutely nails things like weapons fire, explosions, ship design, and especially scaling (something that both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen don't do well). Combat dynamics really do look like an updated FreeSpace 2 with modern gaming sensibilities. Looks fantastic.
Reminder to all who love this genre: Helium Rain goes Early Access tomorrow!

Quoting: liamdaweI think people continue posting their specs here to brag. :PQuoting: liamdaweKeep in mind guys you need to post in their linked Steam forum post, not here ;)
I posted in the steam thread as well, though it is pretty well flooded with specs. I wonder if I could be of special help, since I have controllers... lots and lots of controllers. I could even test if an Atari Jaguar controller would work...

Quoting: GuestI also think this is a clever way to do two things: 1) to gauge how strong the market is, basically how is the high specs Linux customer base looking right now (better than I thought myself, actually), and 2) Get some good marketing. How many more people went to their Steam site to post there who wouldn't have otherwise just reading the press release? I know I certainly did.Quoting: slaapliedjeQuoting: liamdaweI think people continue posting their specs here to brag. :PQuoting: liamdaweKeep in mind guys you need to post in their linked Steam forum post, not here ;)

Either to brag, or they can't read, or only read enough for their brain to process "free key" and then don't read further. Which is why I really, really hope that whoever the dev chooses are actually interested in helping, not just playing.
I think this looks fantastic, and there isn't much on Linux like it. I bet it'll do really well.
