The really fun and cheap online FPS 'Ballistic Overkill' [Steam] is currently on sale with 50% off, pick up a copy and join in on one of our servers!

For the current price of £4.49, it's a deal you don't want to miss if you're a Linux gamer and an FPS lover. This class-based FPS has a lot of features to love, although the map design with the safe areas for each team is an issue for some. It's not perfect for sure, but it is a good blast.

Note - If you get a black screen, it's a bug in the version of Unity it uses. You can add this to the Steam launch option to fix it:
Quote-screen-fullscreen 0

The game also supports Vulkan, although the Vulkan version is currently less tested and less smooth. Do so by adding "-force-vulkan" to the launch options on Steam.

We have three servers for it, see details on our servers here. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Now if only they would solve the camping issue... :(

I solved the camping issue in my game by calculating if enemies were within X range of the randomized spawn point in the spawn point array.

5 lines of code outta do it.

Most of the maps have multiple spawn points. I've had occasional games when a superior team does manage to peg both exits, but it's rare. In my experience. I'm a big fan of Ballistic Overkill. It's not perfect, but there's a lot to like.

I think that might have been the best $6.00 I have spent. I had a fun few rounds. I feel like mouse movement could be smoother, maybe something I need to configure.

Would buy if they added some kind of single player, even if it was just bots offline.

The same goes for me, I can't just jump into an online multiplayer game without practicing on a few bots first.

BO is the very first game I play with my son. Most of the time, we end up in opposite teams. Most of that time, I end up dead if we meet :D I keep complaining about lags, but he plays on the same network and nails it almost every time. Then, after a game, he scolds me for how bad I was

Yes, Samsai plays it on his AMD card as do a few others.

Indeed rare that I get serious camping issues, and one has to draw a line on the map somewhere.

On my fx-6200 + rx 480 + radv, vulkan doesn't run the same peak fps, but it still manages to be a bit more stable. With opengl I have this recurring scope glitch (image freezes) that never happens in vulkan. Vulkan gets a far more stable frame rate during action, and less cpu usage, which matters a ton to me since I don't have any cpu to spare. I hope they keep workin' at that renderer because if it ever gets high frame rates on top of the efficiency I'll be ecstatic. In fact I bought at full price to support the folks

The thing is everybody starts off the same i know people want to jump in and be elite but sometimes am afraid you just have to be a noob.

Now if only they would solve the camping issue... :(

I solve that by using a different exit and then wrecking all the campers,if you play as a team the spawn camping does not happen.

And how often does that happen in random online games ? be honest :P

Ballistic Overkill is a pretty good game. But I'd rather play Dirty Bomb if it had Linux support )

Does somebody know why it says 1920x1080@60Hz in the graphics settings? I play on a 144Hz monitor and get framerates >120 on medium settings which feels very smooth. So there is no a 60fps cap.

Teamwork rarely but you can normally convince at least one to come with in chat as long as you dont start with an insult in the chat.

Yeah Dirty bomb is okay but the complete random nature of weapons and abilities angers and annoys me
