Well then, this is interesting. Not long after Feral Interactive asked to see interest for a Linux version of F1 2017 [Steam], the official Twitter account just let something slip.

Here's the Tweet:

We are aware that there's a delay with the Mac and Linux versions. We are looking into it.

— Formula 1® Game (@Formula1game) August 22, 2017

In case it vanishes, it says this:

QuoteWe are aware that there's a delay with the Mac and Linux versions. We are looking into it.

No one has officially confirmed it's actually on the way to Linux, so I find that amusing.

Also, a Feral staff member went onto reddit today with a question of "Favourite car in a game?" and in this post, they said "... andnothisisdefinitelynotateaserofanykind.".

Well well, what do we all think?

Thanks to Knucks in our Discord for finding it!

Quoting: jensCurrently available on Linux it would be Dirt Rally, currently available on all platforms I would say Assetto Corsa.
How about Grid Autosport? Is that any good?

Personally: Dirt Showdown, but I'm aware that it is an insult to serious racer fans. :)
This game is an aracade racer the way I like them!

It's not that bad if you prefer fun above realism. It's types of races, cars and tracks are closer to Assetto Corsa but handling, feeling and realism of Assetto Corsa is better imho. Dirt Rally has a feeling and realism like Assetto Corsa but stays in the rally world, thus rally tracks and mostly races against the clock. Note that you actually need a good wheel, Logitech G25 in my case...

I do like racing games. More games to Linux is always better.
But in order for me to buy another racing game, already got dirt, it have to be a bit more interesting then f1.

I rather see more open world games.
And it will probably never happen but need for speed or something like that would be an interesting new "genre" of racing games to Linux.
If one can dream, most wanted and underground.

F1 to me at least, seems to be a bit nitched to a small or a serten group of players, a serten group of racing gamers. Linux is small, I image the sales will be very low. But what do I know anyway.

I'd be very happy if it came to Linux, especially with the classic cars included in the 2017 version.

Oh shit - the metascore for F1 2017 is pretty damn stellar! Ok now that changed my opinion completely - of course I will support this port if it's smooth runnin'. Sure!

Sorry Feral - disregard my earlier comments on the topic. I just assumed it was in the same bag as the other F1 you graced us with.

For Mac they have been ported using Metal. It would be great if they used Vulkan for the Linux port. A good game to test and improve RADV.

Tonight Feral will be streaming F1 2017 on mac. If you want to know what the game is like, this will be the best place to find out. Especially if there are a bunch of Linux users subtly discussion that the game looks great and would be very nice to have on Linux. Note the emphasis on "subtly".
