This is a weird one, after blogging for a while about porting Banished to Linux (and Mac), the developer seems to have given up on it.

I'm sad, because it's a game I still haven't played and was really looking forward to a Linux version. I find it strange, because they previously blogged about the process and everything seemed to be going so well. They even said the game was actually running on both platforms back in February.

That's changed, since the latest blog post where they said:

This will likely be the last update of Banished, except for any major bug fixes. The OSX and Linux versions development has stopped, and won’t be released. Going forward I’ll be focusing on new games and projects.

It's possible it was just taking too much time. It's also possible that sales of this early-2014 title have dropped off, making the developer reassess what they're doing. Shame to see all their work go to waste and for us to get no game.

Hopefully Icculus, or someone else can pick up the port and finish it.

I'm glad I didn't buy this one at that time, I've made that mistake too often in the past, it also means I'll have to think long & hard about anything else this developer brings out whether to support them or not, right now I'm landing on the "no support from me" side of the fence, that could change if they port to Linux of course, but it's in their hands.

Its a real shame that the port is no longer happening but I can understand as it is only a single dev who developed the game so maybe worth making an exception and support the dev by purchasing the game anyway.

This game does work under wine though as I brought the game when it first released so I have tested it and it does run pretty well under wine. I was still a windows user at the time.

I had enjoyed Banished when I use to dual-boot. After converting 100% to Linux and deleting all my non-Linux titles from Steam I had looked forward to Banished possibly being ported. Still, I can't say I'm the least bit surprised due to how long the port has taken and how quiet Shining Rock Software got after saying it was "...feature complete, and fully playable."

I am glad we at least got an update and I'm being honest when I say that getting word that a port has been abandoned still feels like progress for Linux games (to me.) When it felt like the norm was to just let all news quietly die off and pray no one would notice.

Good I didn't buy it early. Was looking forward to that one. Sad it isn't coming, but it sounds like they've plans for another project and couldn't get the ports done in time.

Played the game a bit on Windows back when it launched, and honestly, it's kind of dissapointing. Intriguing at first, but with very dissapointing end-game and very little replay value. Gets booring really fast.

I bought it hoping for the port. I've put in for a refund, here's hoping...

Got this one in a bundle when I was still using Windows. Never really played it as I was waiting for the Linux version. Disappointed but not surprised.
