In the mood for some classic gaming? GOG have release eight SNK NEO GEO classics, all but one support Linux.

These are on top of the classic games they already have that support Linux, so it's great to see our collection with GOG become a little more complete.

What are the titles?

I'm almost certain they're some of the same (likely exactly the same) builds as seen in the Humble NEOGEO 25th Anniversary Bundle and the Humble Store. GOG sent me over a copy of some of them and after checking over, it seems they include the neogeo rom files and things like that. They are the builds done by DotEmu and they even hilariously include a "Humble.png" file which has been changed to the GOG logo, I'm guessing they couldn't get the filename changed for that one.

Jokes about the Humble image aside, it's good to see them on GOG so people have more choice in where to get them from.

Will you be grabbing any of these?

I wonder if this will be a big part of Atari's strategy bringing valued classics back to the hands of consumers easily in 2018 with their new console.

I wonder why these are purchasable and not free... :o?
I dont see any new high textures or a remake of these games in HD.
There are so old games that should be for free for the the new generation to enjoy the old Arcade Games.

Well anyway you can easily grab a MAME Emulator for Linux and play them for free if you know where to get the ROMS.

Because taking capitalism to the limit would make even the air you breath require a mandatory nominal fee.

Just imagine jurisdiction passing in China requiring all citizens to pay for cleaner air then X company planting tons of trees or something just to extract cash from the common people while pocketing 80% of the funds for CEO bonus pay.

Imagine a world where you pay for every minuet of internet access you need. You get 1,000 minuets of Internet for $30, and that only includes the top 50 websites, for access to GOL you are charged a extra 4.99, Slashdot $8.97, OMGUbuntu $4.97 this is the nightmare world we hopefully never enter into.

Do the DotEmu versions implement online play? I know that some devs who release old arcade games like these add online play through GGPO (e.g. the Dungeon & Dragons games on Steam) but I don't know what's the policy of DotEmu on this kind of feature.

What makes you say that? They're practically the same aren't they? I just downloaded them both to compare and there's no real difference.

Can you pull the ROM out of the GOG version and use it in MAME?

The Wrapper on the HB version remembers your gamepad without having to initialize it also.

These HB are played heavily in my home on MAME and with the wrapper.

All of these work wonderfully on my Retropie. Neo Geo was amazing, definitely high quality arcade games.

Hi ! Did anyone compare those versions with the emulator ones, in terms of input lag & video rendering ? Using Lakka/RetroArch + KMS + pixel shaders combinations, one can get amazing results.

The HB versions have the same exact ROMS that are found on the net with the exception of KOF2002 it's the 2nd version from the b model of the arcade release.

I wish they'd give Windjammers this treatment, but I doubt they will given the Playstation remaster that just came out. They want to milk that version for $$$ and probably won't take the time to port that to Linux.
