Parkitect [Official Site], the theme park building game currently in Early Access has some big plans, including making sure you make your parks look nice.
In future, they plan to have a "scenery rating", so staff buildings, staff-only paths and so on negatively effect what people think of you park.
Green areas visitors think are nice, red are not so nice.
What they plan to do, is allow you to effectively hide them using terrain, trees and things like that:
If you’ve been following the development of Parkitect for a longer time you might remember one of the most unique and technically challenging features of our Kickstarter pitch was “Maintaining the Illusion” - that scenery should not just look nice to the player, or have an “area of influence” effect on its surroundings. We wanted it to have a real management purpose, namely hiding the backstage areas of the park from the guests view.
Here's one of the examples they gave, showing a staff room being hidden away by some trees:
Other examples were given, like raising terrain around it, enclosing it in a custom building and so on. An interesting system, which would certainly make the game more interesting. Many building games have it, to show more desirable areas. It will be fun to see if they add more features like this into the game, to really flesh it out.
Really love watching this theme park builder progress, it's really coming along nicely.
