Open source racing game SuperTuxKart [Official Site] has release 0.9.3 RC1 they're calling the 'Halloween Update'. Sounds like progress is going well!

To get this out of the way first, networking support is not yet in. They're still working on it and they've said it's "well underway", so hopefully we will see online racing in a future release. They could use help too, see how to get involved here.

As for what's included in this new release, they've included three new tracks, a bunch of physics bugs have been fixed, karts now have exhaust smoke, 'HSV colorization' has been added to some of the scenery and plenty more.

A nice little graphical feature, is that headlights will now automatically turn on during night time. It's a small change, but it does help the overall feel of the game!

Here's the trailer for the new release:

The killer feature of this release is android support, really!

It runs pretty well on my phone, and that could be pretty amazing to throw a phone LAN party with some friends :)
(that is, once network games work)

SuperTuxKart is really has become a quality game. Not that I didn't like it before, but it is still impressive to see how far they have come.

Looks really good in terms of gameplay, although the dead-eyed, expressionless characters still freak me out too much.

The only problem now is that there is a wide disparity between the visual quality of race tracks versus the new ones that are being added. That and the the hub world look like a reference sample from Dark Basic or something.

I'd say that seems fitting for a Halloween update. :P
