I greatly enjoyed my time with the free to play vehicle combat game Robocraft [Steam], but the actual building wasn't too easy. This latest update may help.
They've added in a new "Body Builder interface", which is intended to ease the burden of building your combat vehicle. What it will do, is enable you to select various pre-made body parts and slot them together, enabling you to quickly piece together something awesome. Thanks to this, it has required them to make more blocks available for forge together free, so they no longer drop in crates. The first time you login after this patch, they will also gift you a bunch of extra blocks to make full use of it.
I gave it a test run and found it to actually be pretty sweet. You select from various parts and a colour scheme, then once selected it drops you into the usual block by block building mode with it all ready for you to finish off. It's a rather nice feature, one I plan to make great use of for quick sessions.
On top of that, their older Elimination game mode has made a return as BRAWL. Essentially, you need to kill all enemies or take over their base to win. There's no respawning either, so it's a real fight for survival!
See the full details here. A pretty damn fine update!
I really don't like fiddling around like that.
In addition to that "full manual" mode they should offer a lot more pre-built ones and mix-and-match stuff like "prebuilt tank lower part", "prebuilt wings", etc.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPI tried playing this game, but that you have to design your own vehicle block by block like building something from the tiniest LEGO bricks was just too annoying.Thats pretty much what this update does ;)

Quoting: 14I haven't played it for like two years. I think I should try it again.I picked it up again fairly recently. I'd heard that the game/weapon mechanics had changed significantly, but it had been so long that I didn't remember what they used to be like.
I found it fun then, and I find it fun now.
Quoting: urlauberThe first review (+2000h playtime) suggests it is pay2win. Like all free2play games I'm very sceptical about stuff you can buy that is more than just visual upgrades. The only two things that you can buy with money are: additional crates of random drops, which you get one or two of after every match anyway; and VIP status, which gets you twice as many drops from crates, and additional colours to paint your bots (plus some other even more minor stuff which matters even less).
Anyone who is saying it's pay2win today is probably just salty and/or nostalgic for the Robocraft of yore.

Which is also a source of salt for some players, as they bemoan the lack of creativity when people can just "download the new meta"!

Yep and these crates are really, really, really bad. since they introduced crates, you now have 1/10 of what you had at the end of a game. But it isn't even money, so you sell that and earn 1/4 of the price of the block, and now you can buy something.
so it's 1 game for 1 block.
PayALOT2accelerate.
This game was already pay2accelerate, but I had 300H into it, and ended up with the best tier of the game.
Now you don't even have tiers anymore.. all the fun part of leveling up the bot is now ripped of.
So yep, I'm sad of this old game, and one of those "haters" for what the devs has done.
I will not mention the number of people who lost all their premium things because of the changes (I remember it happened 2 times, but maybe more....)
