Following on from my article announcing that the Linux version of The Signal From Tölva could be downloaded on Steam, it's now officially released on GOG & Steam.

Game Features:

  • Explore a single-player shooter set in a weird, sprawling, tranquil alien landscape.
  • Fight a war of territory control against dynamic and ferocious AI.
  • Recruit allied robots to fight alongside you.
  • Equip electronic countermeasures, plasma shields, and savage beam weapons for intense skirmishing.
  • Unlock the secrets of the signal and enjoy the rich, complex fiction behind the Tölva universe with our free PDF lorebook.
  • Delve into science fiction mystery as you investigate the haunting highlands of Tölva.

It's been running really nicely on Linux and I have yet to find any issues with it. Good to see it get official status now with a SteamOS icon on Steam and a Linux build on GOG too.

I've been enjoying it, but it certainly won't be for everyone as large parts of it really are quite slow. It's a weird mix of lonely travelling, then suddenly being thrust into a firefight against groups of other robots.

The developers are working on a free expansion to the game currently, but they've been having some "real life events" that have unfortunately stalled things a bit. Read more about that here.

Good. This is just one of several games on my GOG wishlist that have been ported to Linux (but not put up on GOG) that I can scratch off the list. Still waiting on Everspace, Man O' War - Corsair and Phoning Home.

Great. Just sank £35 on the Steam sale yesterday and now I'll be buying this too?! Oof.

Great, it's 50% off so great time to pick it up.

Quoting: GuestI’m glad to see a new FPS game on GOG, but the trailer makes this one seem rather boring. You’re a robot shooting other robots in the desert, and that’s it?

Not quite. You're in space hacking control of robots on a planet in order to solve a mystery. It's quite a slow game, so sounds like this might not be for you, but there's more to it than just shooting things.

I'm 17 hours into Signal from Tolva and I'm loving it. I was a bit worried for the first couple of hours by the game's reduced pacing, but I soon came to appreciate the sense of isolation I felt exploring Tolva's haunting, dreamlike landscapes.

It is not a twitch shooter; it is not "adrenaline-fueled," and the game's aesthetic would be ruined with any sort of multi-player mechanic. Nevertheless, combat is intense and exciting and subtly hallucinatory, requiring an awareness pf all available resources, both internal and external.

Signal of Tolva takes place on "a weird, sprawling, tranquil alien landscape. "Tranquil" does not mean "slow." The game is not "slow." It is well-paced, but it is a relaxed pace where every action has the floaty feeling of slightly lowered gravity. It's a pace that is unusual in a single player FPS, and it won't be appreciated by a certain sort of gamer.

Great! One more title to remove from list :) I quite impressed with Big Robot and GOG this time.

It's now 66% off on GOG. :P

PS: Also GOG finally got the Linux version of >observer_, though that one is not on sale.

I'm very impressed how far the Unity Engine has come. I ran a few performance tests considering the graphics quality of this game and to my surprise, it's very playable even on 1 core.

The map is big and it involves lots of walking, I've only played on and off for about an hour so far but really enjoying it. I'm really pleased to see GOG offering Linux versions of games more often, have to say I was a bit disappointed for some time.

In last half of year GOG made some push into Linux support, after being pretty dormant for quite some time. If they get some more of recent builds it will be even better.
